I didnt go thru all 9 pages of comments, so please take that into consideration.
I dont have a big bunk, but no several who do. I dont even like to think about it.
But $189k is a good price for a big bunk.
My best friend is getting a brand spanking new one and the cost is $215k. Of course it has every freaking option you can think of, including washer and dryer, dishwasher.
We both started at same time, on same day, in same class, at same company with 6 year old cab overs.
We both paid them off at same time, on same day. He saved what would of been truck payments for two years. Then took that money and his truck and traded for almost new truck.
Drove that paid it off, saved money and after 3 or 4 years traded for his first brand new truck. Drove that, paid it almost off and traded for a used big bunk.
Paid that off, saved up for years and is now ordering his 1st brand new big bunk.
With his trade and money down he will only wind up financing 80k and will have it paid in 4 or 5 years.
I went another direction got married bought a condo, then kids came so bought a house, cars, camper etc... Put two of the boys thru college.
Talking over drinks, each of us has confessed to the other. Were for most part happy with life. But "sometimes" are jealous of the other and wish we had of gone there route. So there is no right or wrong just different.

Well, I didn't buy my Pete ( in avatar) to impress anyone. I bought it because after 20 years of driving crap, I felt I deserved a large car. I don't think many drivers buy large cars just to show them off, they really are a sweet ride. It's like the guy that works for 20 years in the basement mail room, finally gets promoted to a penthouse office in the sky.

My brother farms. He trades his JD combine every 5 to 10 years, depending on the farm economy...he doesn’t want to deal with breakdowns during harvest. Combines have a lot of bearings and moving parts that can wear out.stillwurkin, 201, Farmerbob1 and 2 others Thank this.

I don’t know what it costs, but every spring my cousin and his in-laws send their 2 combined to the dealer for service and inspection. They let everything run for about an hour and put a temp gun on all the bearings as part of the service. Anything hot gets replaced.

From what I've heard those 40 foot Draper platform heads can run 100k new, never had a reason to check for myself so maybe that's just hot air.
