The best thing my dad ever told me was "I can't tell you what to do, but I can tell you what not to do". Meaning to listen and learn from his mistakes so I dont have to make as many. Unfortunately he died a year or so later and I even trying my hardest, I still ended up learning everything I know from making my own mistakes.
