to many thats why i'm back in the trucking business, you ran us out, or should I say undercut us out of the construction business and it would appear that is what you're trying to do the same thing with trucking.

I realize the following is irrelevant to the current legalizing of Mexican carriers in the U.S. I want to say that Mexican truckers have been here for a long time, when they did not get caught.
In the mid 1970s, I arrived in Chicago before morning rush hour and parked on the street near my destination to get some sleep. I realize that was not safe. Anyway, along came a reefer with two Mexican drivers. They were stymied by the low clearances in the area, and needed street directions. They did not speak English, but had a road atlas with a Chicago map. Somehow, I managed to help them, but wondered how in the world they made it that far. -
Mexican carriers had free access to the United States until Reagan signed the 1982 moratorium excluding all foreign trucks for operating in the US (although he immediately rescinded that for Canadians and grandfathered in more than 1300 Mexican carriers, some which continue to operate legally in the US today)
That's probably why you saw what you did in Chicago back then -
Have US carriers EVER had free access to Mexico??? What about O/O's??Working Class Patriot Thanks this.

If you ask prior to the Cross Border Program, no, except in a 26 km border zone in Mexico which exists today.
This is one of the reasons that Reagan didn't lift the moratorium on Mexican trucks as he did on Canadians in 1982.
However, under the Cross Border Program, American carriers were allowed for the first time to operate throughout Mexico quid pro quo until the idiots pulled funding.
Interesting to note, that American companies participating with half the equipment of the Mexicans, made twice as many trips into Mexico as they did into the US. One company realized a savings of over $1.4 million dollars by cutting out the middle man.
And interestingly enough, none of the American companies reported any of the problems such as hijackings, harassment by bandits and corrupt cops that know nothings like Dale Somers and the "experts" at OOIDA would have you believe awaits you in Mexico. -

As long as you drive during the daylight hours and stay on the toll roads...you'll be somewhat safe......
Night driving is out of the question for Americans in Mexico...tourists included....
This is from my experiences in Mexico and my step-dad's as well...
He used to drive down to Cabo for fishing until he and a bunch of other guys with him got pulled over...Tail light lamp on the boat trailer was burnt out, of all things to get pulled over for in Mexico....
One of the guys is Hispanic but doesn't speak fluent Spanish...the Federalis beat the hell out of because he didn't understand what they were saying to him in Spanish...
They were like "You're Mexican...you speak Spanish".....Needless to say...that was the last trip to Cabo for all of them....Last edited: Jun 11, 2009
