Mr. Anderson, and or Mike:
You guys have me confused (again), according to what Mike quoted from the regs, the pre-trip states, driver must be satisfied vehicle is safe (from reading the previous days post-trip) and post-trip must be signed off by driver doing PTI...so which gets the 15 minute line 4? or do both require the 15 min line 4.
Is there a difference from a loghauler like me (same truck all the time) to the day cab driver, or the shuttle driver who is slip seating each day? -
Until Mike or Paul can answer , everyone must do a pretrip . The post trip is actually to fill out the report for the next driver to review . Single truck operations are not required to fill out the inspection report since the same driver will be driving the unit each day .

Log it as you do it. But from a personal perspective the post-trip time should be longer that the pre-trip time. Why? Because during the post trip you not only need to inspect the vehicle, but complete the DVIR as well. After all, how much and what broke on your rig today that you couldn't tell until you inspected the vehicle i.e. leaf spring, loose brake chamber etc.? There is no specific time frame mandated for a pre, or post-trip inspection and completion of the DVIR in the rules. However the rules do require you not to falsify your time record.rex Thanks this.
