something i have never seen before in my life happened once today and once yesterday
i saw 2 drivers make very rookie mistakes...i mean this is something that is common sense and you would think anybody would know
on a street with 2 left turn lanes, i saw 2 different drivers go to the inside lane....both had sleeper cabs and 53 foot trailers....and there was no reason like construction or they couldnt get over for doing this, they just did it
the first guy realized his mistake halfway through his turn, stopped in the middle of the intersection, waited til all the cars on his right had turned left, then swung out wide....dangerous because u cant really see if a car is coming up fast
and the guy i saw today, well he just said to hell with it, mad the turn on the inside lane and put his trailer wheels over the median, 5 feet from the edge of the median
im no expert on physics but i think that could tip a trailer if the load was top heavy enough and u did it fast enough
what is up with this? how do you make this mistake?
one was a swift driver, the other jb hunt by the way
twice in 2 days

Swift and JB Hunt driver.....do you really need to say more?
Lack of training would be my guess. Tired or the norm just don't give a hoot not their equipment! -
i didnt even mean it as a slam to either companies, i dont know enough about either companies to judge them, other then what i hear drivers say...but theres 2 sides to every story
but this is just unacceptable.....i dont care if both those guys just got there CDL yesterday, theres no excuse for that -
I have seen just about anything that you could think out here on the road done and most of the time it has been done by SWIFT. Me and a friend were at the Flying J about 6 months ago getting fuel. We pulled up went inside to get our fuel tickets and while standing at the counter we here this horrible sound of something crashing. Well we walk out and good ole swift had decided to make a direct left hand turn off the fuel island like he was driving a car and drove right over my buddies 07 T660 and drug it into the fuel lane next to him. He not only drove over the front end but drug the trailer all the way acrossed it so hard that it twisted the frame and cab and totaled the truck. TOTALED an 07 with 300k miles on it pulling off the fuel island. I was just glad i was 3 fuel lanes away from him. I'll never fuel next to a swift truck again i'll tell you that much.

I can't help but wonder how much money Jerry Moyes puts out every month for damage claims for all these new drivers, that is after his attorney's stall everything and he pays them boucoup bucks. Then there are the drivers from his Millington (Memphis) school that have to re-test for their CDL's because of the school having their 3rd party testing status pulled and all that lawsuit going on because of it. I can't help but wonder how that company can stay in business. But if you've got 5,000 plus drivers and only 3 or 4 accidents per day he still must make one heck of a profit even they kill someone. After all, liability is strictly limited when you kill someone instead of maiming them for the rest of their lives.

You guys just kill me with all the miss info you put out. First of all Swift has over 13,000 driver out on the road and yes there are some drivers out there that should not have a CDL but don't judge all the Swift drivers because of few bad one and when you have over 13,000 you will have some bad drivers. Don't judge the driver by the name on the side of the truck.
bigo1969 and rswinnerton Thank this. -
When you have logged over 1 million miles get back to me about who not to judge by the name on the side of the truck. I see that you have been out here a whole uuummmmmmmm less than a yr. You must work for swift and be one of the ones we are talking about. By the way it applies to more of them than not so you have your opinion the rest of us will have ours.kickin chicken Thanks this.

Nobody here was putting down Swift. We were merely stating fact with the possible exception of number of drivers which I didn't take the time to look up in Safestat. Do you know what Safestat is or does fact bother you?
And like the bigcountry stated to wit come back when you have 1 million miles like him, or 1.2 million accident free like me.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Heck with me being local, it might be 1.2 million yrs just to reach that mark LOL.. Serious, I worked for them for my first yr, never had a ticked or even pulled over for a DOT inspection.. I did how ever had one small incident, that was not used against me or even put on my DAC report.. It does happen, but like others have said, some and I mean some should never have even been certified to go solo. I will add this one comment, when I was driving for them, they for a very few short months, they had a policy, that stated no driver is to fail their final driving test after getting out of the mentors truck.. I like other could not believe that they would do such a thing. But after realizing that some new drivers were not cut out for driving, the finally dropped that policy, as some could not pass even after weeks of extra training with a trainer or at the terminal itself..
kickin chicken Thanks this. -
BigC, you and your buddy should have beat the crap out of him.
