What's the name of the hand-held computer used to set the governed top speed on a 2005 International 8600. And, is it possible to buy one used?
How much does something like that cost?
What's that hand-held computer called?

Your proble talking about a pro link but dont think you can change the gov speed on something that new. Witch eng.

I'm 99.9% sure it's a 425 Cummins ISM. The trucks's a Ryder truck. (2005 International 8600) The company I work for leases all their trucks from Ryder. My company had Ryder kick all the trucks down to an ( in my opinion) unsafe speed. I know the governed speed was changed locally (local Ryder shop) because the rental trucks (at that same location) aren't governed at all.
Drivers actually pray their personal truck breaks down so they can get to drive a sub-unit and actually drive at the speed of moving traffic.
Can someone buy those Pro Link computers online? Used? Cheap? -
You want the road speed not the gov changed if I'm correct . you can buy them on e bay but you will find out that Ryder password protects there ecm.

Oh, I see. So, it's pointless to buy one.
I was trying to be slick. Planned to change my "road speed" at the start of my shift, then, change it back once I was done. Thanks. You saved me the time and money.
If you see a truck doing 60mph in the middle lane, don't be mad, I have no choice!!!!!!!! -
I work at a cat shop and have ryders truck come in with the same thing. I think it stupid. they have them set at 65 and the speed limit here is 70. next time you at ryder try to persuid the password out of them. then buy the prolink
Blackducati750 Thanks this. -
We'll see. I almost never se the Ryder mechanics on my new shift. Thanks for all your help!

We leased our trucks from Penske, and they used computers at the shop to do everything, including setting the maximum road speed. On the Freightliners they were 68, but turned them down to 65 trying to increase the mpg. Since that didn't increase mpg, the drivers insisted on turning the speed back up to 68.
Late last year we got International Pro-stars, set at 70, and they got better mpg than the Freightliners. Not to mention, none of the shifters came out of the Internationals, like they did on some of the Freightliners. -
If you changed it much, it wouldnt be hard for the company to figure it out when your fuel mileage was substantially worse than everyone elses. The truck's ECM also tracks average speed and highest speed... if they ever pulled that data for any reason, you'd probably be looking for a job. -
I am pretty sure Cummins is exclusive with there own PC based software now. It's called Insite. Pretty expensive. They also have a handheld device that is more like a PDA, but I think that is only for fault codes. Last I heard Prolink went bankrupt long ago because every time there was software update you had to spend $500 on a new cartridge. So I doubt there would be an old cartridge capable of interfacing with a 2005 because it will have a 2004 emission compliant engine. Like the last post, they will eventually find out what you are up to. It is a nice thought, but you should save your money!
