Wow!! I just read the article on the Garmin Nuvi, it sounds great. I can't wait to get one for hubby's truck. We have a Tom-Tom now and use it with caution as well as in conjunction with the maps, etc....but I like the sounds of this new Garmin.

Don't get the pc miler gps. I got one and it's horrible. I wouldn't trust it to lead my dog across the backyard. Total ripoff. I'm stuck with it until the 465T comes out due to Pilot's no returns policy. Maybe they should sell less worthless trash.

funny, on monday morning, 95 south out of road island in to CT, scale open, which is more on the rare side, anyway, they are pulling trucks on the scale, and mr. leo is standing at the rear doing a break light check. to my suprise i had a left brake light out on the trl. the kind man signals me around back, so around i go, where im greeted by a nother kind dot man, tells me to pull it way way over next to the curb, i figured id be there all day the way he wanted me out of the way so much. comes to the window and informs me of the break light being out, and goes on to tell me to get it fixed, and hes not going to write me up on it.
jjjuuussstttt as he is about to look away, my sat radio chirps for a song alert and he glances at the windshield, and informs kindly that he very well could issue me not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, but 5 tickets, one ticket for each object obstructing my view.
    1. sat radio,
    2. gps unit. which btw is on my dash. no windshield.

i think what saved me was that i had the comedy chan. on it just happened to be his fav comedian that died back in 03 of an overdose, and went on to tell me how he always went to his shows and loved every single one.....

ted, thanks for the information. ill be darn sure to check it out.

I've got my laptop on the passenger seat. I dunno if the laptop version of co pilot is better, or if they stripped it down to fit into the tiny memory of the gps unit, but mapquest is kicking the crap out of it. It routed me over 100 miles out of the way today just to stay on the interstates. I know better than to listen to it now and cut off on the local truck routes. Man, that makes it angry. It was telling me to make impossible uturns and to turn down every little weight restricted dirt road it could find for miles until it finally recalculated. I kid you not, it told me to turn down what looked like a wagon trail straight into a cornfield at one point.

The gps unit thinks I-70 is a restricted truck route, if that gives you an idea of how messed up it is. I had to turn the warnings off because they pop up everywhere. Even the access road to the truck stop is restricted according to it. Maybe if it knew there was a truck stop there...

Oh yeah, the last three addresses I entered into it, it couldn't find. The last one has only been the same since 1923. I think if mapquest, the free service, can find these addresses no problem, then what did I pay for with the gps unit that can't find anything?

Lucky. I got pulled over for a random check by dot (WV). He was a nice guy too. Found my medical card was expired and let me roll on with a warning. Gotta get that this weekend.

Was that RI or CT that got you? I heard RI hated trucks but I've only been though there once. The blink and you'll miss it state.

I heard about them getting tough with having stuff on your windshield too. I have my gps mount stuck directly over my tach. Let them try to make that ticket stick in court, there's a gauge there anyway.

I've had really good luck just looking things up on Google Maps to make sure it matches what the customer tells me. The Street View has helped a LOT too.

However, if in a few months the reviews for the 465T are still positive then I'll probably pick one up to make those late night/early morning/crappy weather deliveries easier.

Since 1995, PrePass has been granted a waiver to allow mounting on your windshield. In general, the transponder must be placed within 6 inches of the top of the windshield and outside the area swept by the wiper blades. The drivers manual that came with your PrePass transponder shows where it should be mounted.

If anyone wants to see the waiver (yawn), I can email.

  11. Rand McNally missed a few local bridge low clearances, and no ALK CoPilot 11 (a great program), using PC Miler, doesn't have all the local bridges so I do doubt that anybody, including Garmin can get them all, but that's okay that's why God gave me eyes, and common sense.
