I worked for there flatbed out of emporia,va. It worked well for me and I say this for real I had the best dispatcher and we still stay in touch. The flatbed industry right now is not blazing any trails in this economy. As far as the pre-approved you how that goes. When I left there safety department was getting really tight. Especially down in nashville and birmingham having to show your log book to exit the terminal. The trucks run 65, Im pretty sure the miles are not good like they use to. The pay was on low side but I did get miles. The economy has changed that.

I enjoyed working out of emporia,va I cant speak to much on the other terminals. We ran all 48 and I mainly try to stay out west to se my sister in cali. I hope this info has been helpful, if you need something specific let me know. I still talk to my friend out of emporia for current info

    rosco2 Thanks this.

Thankyou for the info about the flatbed div at western express. A nother concern I have is home time! I cant park a trk / trlr in my bac yard and the closest trk stop or rest area is several miles away so I felt like I wouldnt be able to get home much? Ive been talking to a recruiter, Paula! but she mainly says that all my questions will be answerd in orientation. Well I live south of Daytona bch Fl and birmingham Al is about 8+ hrs from here so i dont know. Can you give me an ave take home I would make per week if I did go there??? thks.

Say hello to Stumpy. He will train you for loading in Birmingham (he doesnt know me by this nickname). Just call him sunshine, lol.

Western will let you park the trailer (empty) and bobtail it to your residence. So as long as where you park it is approved by the owner of the property and you send a message to your DM of where the equipment is, they are happy.

They like to be informed. But. If you expect 2 days off? MAKE SURE YOU ARE OUT THE 14! LOL they will try to route you home on 12 with the premise of 2 days off. Then tell you that you are rude because you did not work the 14 and are only allowed 34 hours off. Sigh.

They will hire anyone in their flatbed division regardless of your flatbed experience. I had no flatbed experience whatsoever and only 3 mos. solo driving experience and they put me out to drive with only a 30 min. securment class. I'll just say this don't have an accident and get hurt. They will fire you, bill you for any damages, say it was a preventabe accident, and slander your dac. They also take over 30 percent of your pay and in some cases more depending on your experience level. They work you really hard and they don't mind dispatching you on a load that you cannot legally fulfil.

I got pulled into a TN scale for a level 2 last week and only one officer was working the scale . While he was checking my paperwork he had his back to the scale readout and PrePass screen . He kept the scales open . I watched 2 Western Express flatbeds come through with their numbers in red letters and safety violation in red on the screen . They just slid on by .
