Of the two trucks, which woulds you guy's take. The classic is 04 13spd 430,000 (cr england truck), pete is a 04 10spd 580,000 (steven's truck). Have'nt seen the classic, but the pete is nice, well maintained with all new steers and drive's. The price is 29,000 for each. Thanks.

I would take the Pete...I would never take an old CR England truck....NEVER...
bigo1969 Thanks this. -
Pete has a lot of problems that can really get really annoying like rattling dash and wind blowing through the window not to mention it's aerodynamic so the truck will be unstable in winds.
bigo1969 Thanks this. -
neither, both must be specd poorly for that kind of money

bigo1969 and The Challenger Thank this. -
Just how unstable does the 387 get in winds??? Is it an unstable truck in general because of it being aerodynamic or only in high winds??
-
trucks with raised sleepers will be unstable in winds. Me and a buddy of mines drove his 387 on i-90 and we hit montana and the wind was crazy and i had to grip the steering wheel hard as hell to have total controlle of the truck. Because it's a truck with a raised sleeper it will be unstable. So if your loaed like heavy and the wind is blowing it won't be a walk in the park to controll the truck. Same thing with the t2000 because it;s the same truck pretty much that's why they call it t2 me to hahahaha. If a truck is lower to the ground and not a raised sleeper it won't have no problems pretty much ex. Kw w900, pete 379 and the wester star trucks.

Well... IMO I can't see how the firmness of the grip on the wheel influences one's ability to control the truck. Reaction to input is what control is about - input from terrain, wind, road conditions, traffic, etc. I think gripping the cr@p outta the wheel would reduce reaction time and inhibit ability to control. But, what do I know, I drive a "low" 379 with a 63 inch sleeper.
As far as quality and durability are concerned the Pete is the obvious choice. However in today's marketplace operating cost has to be the numero uno reason to make a purchase. You didn't mention the rear end ratios, tire sizes or engines. Since fuel is the #1 cost in most operations these component selections are critical. Have the ECMs read for average fuel mileage. Next, see if the service records are available. Any warrantee left? Any oil sample history? If no, pull your own. Maybe go to the "favorite trucking company" thread and ask Stevens drivers what they think about the maintenance on thier trucks? Or go to the "worst trucking company" thread and ask the England drivers the same questions.
The aero truck should get up to 1 MPG more than a Classic/379/W900/Western Star. The fuel savings can easily add up to $12,000 or more a year. Parts are pretty equal since most are generic to all trucks. I buy most of the parts for my Pete at the Freightliner dealer at a reduced price than the Pete store. BUT, you gotta look at and live with your choice every day so if a "hood" is "it" for you then buy one and maximize fuel eficency. This was my choice. I was going to make the logical choice and buy a 387. I had it financed and the deal was done. When I went to pick it up, I left in a 379. Can't say I regret it, except for the confined space, poor turning radius, reduced vision - especially backing up, reduced fuel mileage......
