When I was younger I used to be sympathetic, but after several times of finding out that most were dishonest, I stopped. I’d guess that 10% are sincere, but I refuse to take my chances on people I do not know at all. They are not my responsibility nor anyone’s. I really believe that if you want to help them—then don’t! That’s why people are so weak and never grow out of that situation because there are strangers who are willing to hand them some money.
ANOTHER RANT:
I know people don’t want to hear this, but let’s be clear that “most” homeless people are in that situation because of their previous actions. They were likely living paycheck to paycheck and spending money on things they do not need. These folks have zero idea what it means to be a real homeless. They think they’re homeless, but here in the US they can have access to temporary free housing, food, and who knows what else. Let them toughen up. There’s no greater teacher than life.
Before anyone misunderstands me, yes, there are indeed situations in life that are out of our control such as a natural disaster, a serious illness, or an accident. Most homeless do not fall in that category.
What would you guys have done?

I saw a guy probably mid 30s holding up a cardboard sign. Was an off ramp from the freeway. Dont know what his sign said he was facing the other direction from me. When all the cars left the stop light and there was nobody coming he pulled a frickin smart phone out of his pocket and hid it behind the cardboard sign looked like he was checking the time or his messages . meanwhile i sitting at the stop light watching this doofus, and couldnt do nothing but shake my head, and thought of all the honest ppl that throw their money away at these good for nothing losers, cant trust anybody nowadays
FlaSwampRat, Linte_Loco, PE_T and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ask him where the hell he's finding decent pie for a buck a slice.
Seriously, though, nobody asks for a single these days (unless they're a stripper, in which case they can have ALL my singles). I'd be willing to wager that Mr. Clean Cut was looking for a coke strawFlaSwampRat and LoneRanger Thank this. -
The $10 haircut is your downfall. Invest in a good set of clippers and start giving yourself a buzz cut.
Then you can afford to give $1 to the vagrant.x1Heavy, FlaSwampRat, TripleSix and 2 others Thank this. -
Or I can spend the $9 on my kidsFlaSwampRat, Linte_Loco and Lepton1 Thank this.

Let the vagrant go earn his own like the rest of us.

Cant say what I would do, have to be there. On some days I would have given him the dollar. Others I would not, it all depends on how I feel at the time.
I dont judge!
Good clothes and bmw, dirty rags and a 10 speed. Rich part of town, the projects, Liberal new England, consuckertive mid west. Rebel flag waving redneck, suit wearing muslium, dirt poor back woods, ebt spending walmart shopper. Or well to do Macys, not bother to look at price tag shopper.
On and on and on, there are good people and pos in every group.
Look at some and say must be nice, others and thankful that didnt happen to me and I am not them.
So everyone gets the same treatment. Depends on how I feel at that moment.
I could be kind and nicest person you ever met. Or the biggest ace hole you never wanted to meet.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
Newsflash, just about everybody is living paycheck to paycheck. Most people ain't living great in this country. Living, or should I say, surviving, is expensive. Most jobs don't pay enough to even live. For owner ops out here, loads barely pay enough to keep y'all in business at this point and yall are watching every penny. People aren't necessarily homeless because of overindulgence. They are homeless for reasons unbeknownst to us. If you dont want to give them money, that's your choice but it's not our job to determine why. I dont really care. If someone needs help and I can do it, I'll do the right thing.Lepton1 Thanks this.
