I’m so glad you said this. Not all drivers are created equal. There are drivers out here that have been driving for years and still don’t know how to drive smooth. The engine and load are always part of the equation. But the driver is also a major factor.
Do you have a new truck without APU?

Do not leave dealership unless idle is what YOU want. $350 to change it later. Default is 1 hr idle off some trucks. I would rather idle with a non def engine.
If you get a 5000 watt inverter you can run a window or portable ac off a battery bank fed by a gasoline generator. Cheaper than diesel and a 10 thousand dollar apu. Thats why they do not sell such systems. Cheaper. Trucking is strange.FlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Why would you need a 5k inverter if you're running a generator ?whoopNride, KB3MMX, 86scotty and 1 other person Thank this.

I'm thinking the generator is for the gasoline. Then the inverter is powered by the battery pack. Keeps the generator from running all the time. Essentially you are using a DIY battery powered APU. I get it. Nice cost effective way of doing it.

Then you have the weight of 4 more batteries and the genset....KB3MMX Thanks this.

That’s awesome mileage. You’re running trucks the ‘mega’ way. Definitely a cost saver if you trade em in at warranty end.
Just owning one truck I plan to drive it to 2 million miles at least. APU helps.KB3MMX, SteveScott and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
I’m tryin. Took me about 10 yrs to get to that point but yeah that’s the idea. 5 yr 500k warranty and trying to use the newest engine and trans technology to get my fuel mileage up. When the rates are down it’s more important then ever to be as efficient as possible.
The megas are already getting trucks, fuel, and insurance cheaper then us. What I can do is at least get as good of mpg as them or I’m at a whole another disadvantage.KB3MMX, SteveScott and 86scotty Thank this. -
Boom !! Facts !!

Also the cost of emissions repairs / problems GREATLY REDUCED....
The new engines are more efficient through multiple technologies VS pre emissions.
Some are;
1) Improved combustion design through;
A) cylinder and piston design
B) injector Spray pattern and angles
C) injector spray pressure, finer mist
D) improved cylinder head airflow
E) Improved turbo efficiency
2) higher efficiency oiling systems;
A) oil pump efficiency
B) oil flow engineering target zones
C) oil performance improvements
3) higher efficiency cooling systems ;
A) coolant flow engineering
B) water pump efficiency
Engineering has came a long way.....
I do like the simplicity of pre emissions BUT saying there is no difference between those engines and modern ones is 100% falsity.
BINGO !!
The fuel guzzlers will continue the path of burning up stacks of hundred dollar bills every week that could have went in their pocket.... And most importantly kept them in business during tough economic times and competition...lilillill and Midwest Trucker Thank this.
