Hello,
I joined on a few days ago and have been reading back and getting familiar with everyone, who they are where they went to school and where they work and all the opinions of those companies. I must say this is the most active board i have come across, Thank you all for your wealth of information. I am learning ALOT, even starting to get a hold of the terminology and "trucking lingo".
I have been thinking about making a career change (unemployed at the moment) and still trying to decide between a school out here in the Denver area (PTDI cert.) or getting on with a 1-2 year commitment and not having to pay up front.
I am luck that my wife and kids are supportive but i don't think they truly understand they may not see me at all for the first few to 6 mo during training. But this is a sacrifice i will have to make and am willing to make.
I try to keep a positive outlook on my future and hope to get the 1-2 years OTR experience and hopefully land a good local / regional job that will have me home a few nights or days a week.
Thanks again everyone!

Hey man,
I haven't been on here long but I'll throw in a little advice if you want. If you don't want it thats ok too...lol. From what I have observed in my years in this industry, it is far better for you to go to school on your own if at all possible. It's a tough couple of years at the beginning of any trucking career and it will compound the agony if you are stuck with a company that you hate. You seem prepared and know you aren't going to jump right into a great job right off so that is good. I have been driving for 15 years now and it took several years of that to get a truly "decent" job. If your main objective is to eventually get a driving job with good pay and good weekly time home I would suggest a freight company like Estes, Southeastern, or the company I am with Saia. I have made by far more money in the past 6 years with them than anywhere else I have driven. And, the run I have now, I am home almost every day. So, I wish you luck and hope you don't get discouraged at the beginning of your career. -
Thanks! I will take in any and as much advice as i can, i really appreciate it.
