So I am a student who is going threw the mentor phase of training. I am just 50hrs shy from being able to go solo. I was with a foul mentor who would piss in bottles and not put lids on them and put them next to the head of the bed, who did not shower, was racist, homophobic, and was wanting me to put up to 35 gallons out of 49 gallons of the allotted Reefer fuel daily cap. (he is an o/o I am a company driver) I never did but told him I did as I am not a thief and I am not willing to risk my cdl so he could save a few bucks at the pump and I just wanted to pass threw and get solo status. However a few days ago I had an engagement that I had to be home for. The mentor knew this weeks in advance. The day before I was supposed to be home he accepted a load for that day even though less then 6 hrs before this I reminded him. Well to make this long story short I get back a few days later (because he had taken home time) to check my logs and I had discovered that on the day I was home he had logged into my name and drove the truck after he had ran out of his hours. I went in and reported it to my Driver Qualification Leader who immediately pulled up my logs. While I was sitting there he lost his ability to be a mentor, his route (he was dedicated) and I was told that he was going to be terminated. I did not set out to do this to him and I feel horrible this was his lively hood and while he was a horrible person I still did not mean for this to happen. Really just conflicted as I now have to write a letter about all this over the next few days. ( I only told them I wanted a new mentor and about the log violation) Did I do the right thing?
Feeling Guilty

Stop it with the stockholm syndrome. Trainer got axed you should be celebrating.
Good catch on that log intrusion.Hulld, autopaint, Nateman482 and 7 others Thank this. -
As a side note. You are probably a very good person etc all that. But you cannot feel guilty when actions are taken that which removes a bad professional before he can continue to hurt other students.
When I was a trainer back when, my wife was my best student. Otherwise I don't touch her logbook. Once in a while as in daily, I'll review it. But there was nothing for me to teach her excepting illegal running. And that was not necessary at all.Nateman482, stillwurkin and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
I agree with every reply in this thread, except this small part.
There are no 'bad professionals'.
That is an oxymoron, a non-sequitur.
That mentor was not a professional in any way, and he needs to be out of this industry.
The OP did good in every way.Hulld, stillwurkin, MartinFromBC and 1 other person Thank this. -
So you put up with a racist, foul, homophobic, dirty scum that left open pee bottles in the truck but when he padded your hours to get you closer to being solo that was the last straw?

Anyway, he did it to himself. Nothing to feel guilty about.stillwurkin, x1Heavy, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this.
