Question about chain

I have 6- 20ft chains that have been cut in half.
I also have 1 20ft, and 3 16ft.
I'm using the 16fts more these days.

 

All mine are 16’ and I carry 6 4’ shorties. Those shorties have come in handy countless of times.

 

5/16 grade 70 is all I need for my use. My shorties are 3/8.

 

I was thinking of getting 6 25' 3/8 chains... I suppose that's the difference between flatbed and step deck.

They aren't that much heavier than a 5/16 to work with and you get the extra WLL. 3/8 is about 1/4lb heavier per foot compared to 5/16 with a ~30% higher WLL.

I keep 8 x 3/8-1/2 ratchet binders on the truck and 4 x 5/16-3/8 snap binders. Only use the snap binders if I've run out of ratchets or don't have room for a ratchet. I prefer to ratchets because it's a lot less work to adjust them if one starts to loosen up going down the road. Don't have to use a bar.
