There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking pride in the job or enjoying it, but unfortunately for me I have lost that spark in recent years, make no mistake, I still take pride in it and try to do the job to the best of my ability, and I haven't lost sight of what my job provides me and my family and still greatly appreciate it, but as far as enjoying it anymore it's just not there for me fellas, and this started before Saia so it's not them, infact compared to the last two outfits I worked for, Saia improved things actually, but in the big picture it wouldn't matter who I was employed with at this point, OD, Estes,FXF,UPS ect, union, non union, wouldn't matter, I have hit the point that to me it's not fun anymore, now I am not the miserable prick guy that comes into work and says nothing to no body, it's not that bad lol, infact I still go to work cheerful and greet everyone I encounter, but there is definitely something different now, I wasn't feeling like this five years ago.

Having a driver facing camera does not equal micromanagement. I had one at US Foods for almost a year and not once did I ever hear about it from my bosses, despite setting it off multiple times daily. Hell, I rarely even saw my boss more than once a month.

Yep, now I am not saying it was the right thing to do, but prior to cameras, I would run up to about 2 car lengths distance, check the mirrors and then go for the pass, never had any issues in all those years, and it avoided the getting passed on the right issue.

Perhaps, but I’d just as soon not even go down that road.

Well, I personally can’t help but feel a bit of pride after empty a full 48 footer, especially when it’s loaded almost entirely with 1-skid orders like the 21 stop run I had yesterday.

I hate to brag or even appear that way, but I have a 6:00 start with my own truck that I can even do extra linehaul runs on weekends without slip seating. With what I read about other companies and how they operate that’s a tough deal to beat in my mind, even if some of those other outfits may or may not have us beat in the wage and bennies department.

No I get it, back when I ran p&d there was no better feeling than getting that trailer empty, especially before pickups started, that was really cool, even after transitioning to a line driver it was still cool, at one point I loved it, but for me something happened, maybe to much monotony or something, can't really pinpoint it, I am glad that it's hit me later in my career though, I have come across guys only 5 years into it saying how much they hate the job and the business and it sucks ect ,but don't know what else to do, and are only there for the money.

This is so true too, not to pick on a certain segment of the industry, but the OTRs man, the guy you come up on who's constantly drifting into the shoulder, then comes out of it towards the passing lane, then back to the shoulder, you watch it and are like, is this dude drunk, falling asleep, having a med emergency or what, then sure enough as you are passing them, there is a phone in their hand, go figure.

Monotony I can handle. I’m pretty much built for that. There’s a certain “security” in knowing what I’m doing every day and knowing it will far from both the terminal and Washington DC.

Malcontents... They’re the ones I try to avoid because they usually having nothing good to say about anything. Misery does love company.

We all have to work. Unless we have enough money in the bank to not have to work, its what we do. Everyone can tolerate different things. Water off the back so to speak. It's kinda like hearing somebody say something that will irritate one person but another person just shrugs their shoulders like, eh, big deal.

I have found too often, when somebody complains that the company is removing something, it hinders that individuals personal habits. Here are some easy examples.

Company says no smoking in trucks. Who isn't gonna complain? Obviously the non-smokers. There will also be some smokers who don't complain also because its not a big deal.

Company installs driver facing camera. Who isn't gonna complain? The drivers who do there job and could care less who sees them doing it. Who will complain? Most of the time, the ones who ride in the gray areas. There are also those that can't do their job under supervision. It bothers them. They feel pressured or what has been already stated, micromanaged. Micromanage doesn't apply in this instance to me because if your doing your job, what are they gonna say? Do it better? Try getting blood out of a turnip.

I try to keep an open mind when things happen. Once upon a time, you could chew gum in school. Well, what happened. You get knuckleheads that abuse this benefit and soon there are new rules that ban it. No different with anything else.

If a driver has an accident and they can see that he was on his phone, BAM, automatic termination. I think that is fair.
