Uniforms aren’t a real big deal and seniority will come in time, but as for the micromanagement companies vary on that. Saia and XPO are the two worst I can think of that, while Estes, R&L and A. Duie Pyle seem to be the easier places to work.

Here at OD linehaul isn't required to wear uniforms. They absolutely do not micromanage us. There's no way a common otr company driver can come close to the pay in ltl. I run more miles as a linehaul driver compared to what I did when I was otr and make 20cpm more a mile to do it. Not to mention our drop and hook and fueling pay. I wasted alot of years running the road before I started in ltl. It's a night and day difference.mickeyrat, LtlAnonymous, jtaran06 and 4 others Thank this.

You are literally the first person I have ever heard that said they get their ### kissed because of the demand for otr drivers. I'm glad it's working out for you like that, what company are you working for? That could be a good change for all the good otr drivers out there sitting in a truck not getting paid and getting crapped on by society. As far as the money tho I don't know about that, I guess if you are a top tier otr driver but the bulk of the jobs out there just don't pay enough (I thought about trying it and looked into it). I would need 60cpm and 3000 miles a week to make what I make now if I were to go otr and there doesn't seem to be a ton of jobs out there like that.Last edited: Aug 19, 2019
Reason for edit: Autocorrect is my worst enema.TankerP, LtlAnonymous, Bob Dobalina and 1 other person Thank this. -
When was the last time you were drug tested? I know of zero OTR gigs where people are kissing OTR drivers rear ends' to work for them. I'm sure there are outfits that pay their drivers well in comparison to the industry, but I doubt any of them would kiss posterior to keep a driver.JadeLove, Gearjammin' Penguin, LtlAnonymous and 2 others Thank this.

At first I was gonna say, "to each his own."
Then I was gonna provide a rebuttal to each of your points one by one, which isn't difficult at all.
But after rereading your post several times I have to instead ask: are you trolling us?mickeyrat, TankerP, De Trucker and 4 others Thank this. -
Well, some adVANtages of OTR, at least with my experiences are:
1) You can pretty much set your own schedule----run when you want, sleep when you want. This is HUGE. Again, my experiences.
2) Pretty much easy interstate, or highway cruising most of the time.
3) You're really not touching any freight generally. You're only opening and closing the doors.
4) Longer wheelbase tandem OTR tractor MIGHT cruise better/more comfortably on the highway than a short wheelbase single axle LTL tractor. Debatable.
Much like LTL linehaul, it's pretty much a show up and get paid kind of deal. No real "work."
i have never had an OTR company KMA. If anything some of the food companies i worked for did, to a small extent. But that's another (difficult) topic.......Last edited: Aug 19, 2019

One of the reasons I've never posted checks is that I don't feel like putting in the work to mess with the file in an image editing program so that I can block out my personal information. And even without personal information, I'd still be identifiable by my company if I posted exact numbers (my name isn't "Bob D.")
Another reason is that one time you requested another driver provide scans of paper stubs instead of an online pay statement. I don't even have paper stubs. I'm sure I could get them, but I'm not gonna bother with all of that. You'll just have to trust me that I'm at about $100 shy of $60k for the year on an easy linehaul bid with no dock work. Also, whenever I get out of my truck women flock toward me and drivers ask me to autograph their log books--all because of my uniform!hotrod1653, JadeLove, TankerP and 7 others Thank this. -
I've quite often wondered what an OD check looks like.Texas_hwy_287, LtlAnonymous and FlaSwampRat Thank this.
