Guess I haven't thought of this aspect yet. Just what kind of stuff can you write off as a company driver? Can you write off food while you're on the road or stuff you buy to put in your truck? I usually just use TurboTax but I've also never really had anything to write off either.

Just had to take a moment to post this. http://www.jhlrivenburg.com/index.html. This is a link to a web site put up by the wife (widow) of a young 35 yr old driver murdered in his truck while trying get some needed rest. Something about this industry that concerns me are the restrictive federal, state and company policies regarding idling. Living in AZ I know how dangerous, not just uncomfortable, the heat can be. Every year here in the Phoenix area several children, elderly, pets, etc. die from heat stroke and exhaustion. Not to mention all the deaths to illegal immigrants trying to cross from Mexico. Whole other story there.
Bottom line is: "...just open a window, you can tough it out, oh it's not THAT bad...." and similar responses from govt and company officials, is a shoddy and impotent way to deal with, what for some will become a tragic and heart-breaking situation.
Any of your experiences and/or feelings about this are welcomed.

Stay safe on the road...in EVERYway.

Yeah I agree - I have a real problem sleeping in 73-74 or warmer weather - I know I am spoiled and I am sure that I can adjust - but when its 80 or more at night - not going to happen. From what I understand is that the company charges you for extra idle time (though I read $2.50/hour?). I will be paying that for a good nights sleep.

Also I also have a question about this idle time thing like how is it calculated? Miles driven or time driven * 30% or whatever the rate is. Thanks

Juju - Hi and thanks for the response.

I really need to get a disk for my camera because today i had to use my camera phone to take a picture of a Swift truck that had a Rail road crossing gate on the trailer. seems swifty tried to beat the train but didnt make it befor the barrier came down on his trailer:biggrin_25512:. if i knew how to get it from my phone to my computer i would have posted it. I sent it to jess. It happened to day on my way to pick up this load in Rochelle, Il.
