Yippy yi ya. Then that means maybe I can get a dorm sized fridge. I saw one at Sears (a Kenmore) that had a freezer on the top like Steve was talking about. It'd be like having a real refridgerator. I asked the salesman if I got a 2500 watt inverter would that work and he said yeah and then some.

We bought a "real" refrigerator from Wal-Mart that had a compressor, etc., and it did NOT work in the truck. It clanked and banged around, too. Some say they work, we didn't find it did.

You can get an Engel fridge from a lot of places and they are awesome!! They are exactly the same as a fridge with a freezer, if you want it, but don't have the moving parts of a "normal" fridge and are meant to work well in places like trucks, etc. They're very expensive but most say they're worth it.

    I see.....
I was wondering about the noise factor. I am also wondering about how I am going to 'wrestle' the thing up into the tractor. Even with help it seems like its going to be hard. Thanks for the info. I might try one from Sears and see what happens since I don't have alot of cash right now. But I'll google and bookmark the brand you just told me about and save it for reference...

"Dorm" fridges are not that heavy. The only problem with a regular 120v fridge is they ARE NOT designed to bounce around and vibrate like will happen in a truck.

Do you think setting it on a dense piece of foam or something that would absorb the shock would help? Or would that interfere with ventilation...

Hey that link you sent me minpins is neat :biggrin_255:
I like that satellite antenna... I'll take the $1200 one...lol

It probably won't hurt, how much it'll help I don't know.

Norcold, Summit, Tundra, and Avanti offer a wide range of refrigerators. I have been looking into refrigerators for the same reasons as you. Also, Google 'Nextag', you'll find over a hundred models. Some have two-door offerings. They can really get pricey---some over $1,000. When searching online; search for: Compact Refrigerators. Ultimately, I feel it comes down to "You get what you pay for." The 12-volt units are fine for sodas and snacks. But, I got tired of having milk curdle after 1-2 days. The refrigerator made for RV's I find to be the best options. Good luck!

Note: As usual, here I am posting to a thread from November, 2007. "Gee, I wonder if they've found a refrigerator yet." Nevertheless, I would like to hear what your refrigerator choice was and how it performed.

Went to Lowes, armed with a tape measure. Bought a Fridgidare 2-compartment job that works great. Removed a cabinet (six nuts) and fits between the drivers seat and the bunk, plugs into my inverter.

I'd like to hear some reports of how long the household type of fridge lasts in a truck. With the vibrations and road shock I'm betting not very long.

Get an RV type of 12v fridge if you can, they are designed to handle the environment of a vehicle.

They have a compressor and separate compartments. One place has 'em for $186.15

Anyone have one of these that can provide a review? Seems awfully cheap to me.
