Pay his way through the BS. Something breaks, company leaves you high and dry...whether that's with pay, fuel.... or just plain leaves you without work. Tickets, chicken coop fines.

Not all companies get carte blanche to sainthood. Paying your way means everything from the new guy, like me, paying for my own school, to the old timer paying his way out. When you have some money set away you can say good bye a heck of a lot quicker to the company that treats your meat like a seat:) You have choices...

You don't have choices you gotta drive for the penny's and your meat gets put through the grinder.

Sorry, something I learned at a vey young age, I always had choices.
I have several times on the first day of a job informed the boss, that this is just a job, I have never found one I had to have. They generally ask me if I have an attitude, and I explain that it is just teh opposite, I will do my job, but you need to remember I don't have to have it, it is still just a job and there are more of them.
That has never, ever caused a problem, but if they are paying me, it is because they need me, period, no other reason.

I gave my cdl as a workaround tot he narcotics I was on back in the day. Driving with them too with the tolerance I was running then. I would fail the roadside eye test if something did happen for sure and that will continue to reverberate into the future.

Ive actually am at a place where surgeries have fixed the worst of my issues. revealing whats left to be relatively little. The medicine I am on is slow relatively speaking and does not affect my mind (It's still a DUI etc) as does the synthetics. But I am taking one or two a week instead of doses 3 per day now. It's slow enough that if I live quietly I don't burn through it. The doctor is fixing to understand there is a oversupply. He probably will just skip a month in prescribing as I continue to work towards getting back into trucking.

To be fair I am no where near what I was at younger years but the spirit remains strong.

Here's a little info on KLLM:
Have a Class A CDL, but it's been a while since you've been on the road? Then come sign up for our refresher course at KLLM Driving Academy.
As a 'Refresher' student with previous tractor trailer driving experience, you'll skip Phase 1 Training and proceed directly to our truck driving academy Phases 2 and 3.

I'd put Abilene Motor Express and Magnum Ltd. at the top of the list, then work through the others if needed.

Well when someone asks if you’ve got an attitude you already lost the job... or on the short list for the door.

Some of us can pick or choose, but from what I’ve seen, it’s the minority. Walking out means at least a couple of weeks without any money.... without some money put away and a family, you can find yourself in big trouble.

Personally I’m not going to come off ####y. Being squared away isn’t a License to be an SOB to someone willing to hire you. It just means you have choices.

You have it all wrong, I am not being a prick to them and have never had any fall out over it, many of my old bosses still call to this day and keep in touch, one for over 20 years ago.
When I hire out to somebody they get 110 % from me till the minute I quit, if they don't deserve it is is a short time type of deal, but I can only think of maybe one job I have had in my life that I could not have gone back to, and they went out of business within a matter of weeks of when I left.
As far as squared away, well I am no better off than anybody, in fact not as well as many any more, but sure wasn't squared 40 years ago when I learned a guy always has choices.

No, I didn’t say you specifically were anything.... I just meant in general that playing Willy Nilly with job prospects isn’t for the light-hearted. You either have to have some bank or a lot of b*lls to dictate what you will or won’t do for a job... especially when you’re young and hungry.

I’m sure you know what you’re doing... wasn’t meant to be anything personal.

BTW.... I forgot this, when I was taking the refresher ( 40 hours ) I called Werner, they have a terminal about 15 minutes away. I liked idea of having a yard for truck, and other helpful reasons;) close to house.

Anyway, Werner turned me down.... I was told that I would need another 160+ hour course or
have a minimum of 1 MONTH experience prior to application.... I mentioned that the 160 hr course was simply the refresher I was taking, done 4x over for those who had never backed, did a pre trip, or drove around the block a few times in a truck.... That response was met with silence.

    SEE... Werner has standards everyone!o_O
