There is no reason to assume the truck stops showed in the local news story were where the driver fueled. Reporters feel they have done their job if they show ANY truck stop instead of showing a busy airport. They are NOT detail driven people.

She done exactly the right thing.
They hired her a week ago knowing dam well
They were gonna shut the doors.
She didn't even have time to get a paycheck,
    To catch the bus home.

That right there, is an accurate depiction of how MOST of these companies view their employees, especially drivers, at the end of the day. Translation, they don't give a #### about YOU, or the next guy.

Disagree with this action as the right thing to do.
Once the driver found out that the company was closing down, the driver should have contacted the shipper and told them of the situation and that the load needed to be returned to them. What the driver did was screw over the shipper, receiver and possibly the broker by this action.
Didn’t hurt the now closed company one bit.
Now a trailer is sitting, with a load on it unattended.
If memory serves me, HVH runs refrigerated freight.
If so, is the refer running and how much fuel does it have.
Did some one arrange to do a recovery on it?

That said, a company shutting down with equipment and drivers out in the wild, is wrong and unacceptable for any reason. The stranded drivers should file claims with labor for wages and possibly a class suit against the owners.

  6. no she's going to be fine the company close the doors she technically didn't abandon the equipment they effen abandoned her..long as she has the paperwork in the documentation they could easily see that and any reputable carrier after we seen what happened with the pielsticker and the humongous arrow fiasco that opened up so many eyes over there in Tulsa and Falcon and more...
she won't have to worry about a thing because like I said she didn't abandon a load they abandoned her

Stupid question maybe but if the doors are closed and the fuel cards are shut off how do you know the vehicle insurance isn't cancelled?

LoneRanger, scythe08, x1Heavy and 8 others Thank this.
  8. well if you were smart you call up OOIDA first... then you get yourself a temporary quick 30 day insurance policy because OOiDA has policies where you can pay by the month... bobtail and not have to worry about it..
as a lifetime OOIDA member I could say that with 100% certainty that's all you have to do and you could take that truck wherever you want when you put a policy in your own name and for just a bobtail it wouldn't cost that much..

Possible if self-insured (although unlikely in this case), but if third-party then it should be pre-paid until premiums are next due.

G13Tomcat, brian991219 and tinytim Thank this.
  10. you can't trust that..company goes under who's to say their policies non and void..
they already did think twice about screwing you over out on the road who says they won't do it on your insurance but there are ways to go ahead and get a temporary policy in your name just to bobtail where you need to go or as much as you want

    tinytim Thanks this.

I wouldn't spend a nickle to protect the company's asset, shipper or receiver unless it also coincided with my best interests and was the most economical solution or I was guaranteed (pre-paid) my wages/expenses.

As for the driver; been hired a week? I wouldn't even mention it.
