I'd tell them u can load it and sit on it till another driver is able to take it, reschedule delivery if they have to.
Tell them you will be available for a e coast load, picking up on mon. Or you will be making airline reservations to attend your MOTHER'S FUNERAL.

The last message I got was "it's a 24 hour shipper. Go pick up."

And I did reply, because this has been going on for almost a day now that 'I am not doing it, period, the end. Your options are to reschedule it so it is legally possible or dispatch me on a different load.'

I don't do well being treated as they treat me. They pushed beyond my tolerance.

there are other jobs out there. family first. park the truck and fly home.

when you search for a new job you tell the new employer about the death in your family and the company giving you another load, in a different direction.

but i think too that you would NOT have missed any services. the rest of the family would have waited for you, since you were on the road.......unless they are all a bunch of aholes?

Sorry about your Mom. Whatever happens with this load I'd start looking for a new seat. When bad things happen like a death in the family you find out real quick if a company is worth working for.

My Mom got sick a few years back, halfway across the country. Twice I parked the truck with no notice, once under load, and the company never game me a hard time, only asked if they could do anything to help. Anything less isn't good enough.

That is abandonment. I'll never get another job anywhere with that on my record. Thanks for replying but...nah! Not doing that.
I have done and offered doing that. They declined to change it.

Dude called after I gave him his options of rescheduling it or giving me a different load.
He said the shipper was 24 hours and will nit decline loading it. Let him know when I can get there, I'm the only driver in the area so I'm the only one availavle for it.

I agreed to get the load to a relay point in East St. Louis, iL.

While I would not want to abandon a load family is more important than that and you will get a job after that.

Another option...do what you can in the legal time allotted and DRIVE home. Do you have ample truck parking near home? Take a 34 at the HOUSE. I do it all the time, but then again, I'm allowed to bring my rig home; I have a semi barn. And NOPE I'm not an O/O.

Thanks. I already knew this company wash ###### after my first 4 loads that was this same nearly exact scenario. They weren't legally possible to do within HOS. I declined them with that reason given for declining and they threw a fit, wrote me up, bullied, etc.

I have been calling around to other companies. I've only been driving again around 10 months (had cdl in 90s but went back to factory work to raise my daughter) and this is my 4rth company in that time - others were much worse and less tolerable - so I'm trying to at least stay with this one a few months until I have a year in to get in to what seems to be better companies.

If they don't route me toward home after this trip...I am not missing my moms services. I will drive the truck to a terminal and get home and deal with things from there.

only if you quit. death and other serious family issues come first.

but then, since you did not stand up for yourself, getting home could not have been priority # 1.

you only have ONE mother and ONE father (biologically speaking), and if there was any love for either one or both, a person GETS HOME no matter what. you call the company and tell them, you are parking the truck and flying home. if they give you a rash of crap, YOU PARK the truck and fly home.

look at it yet another way...when the dispatchers or office people have such problems, they are with family, why, cuz they are at the home locations. being on the road away from home, is tough enough as it is.

you take care of family and family business above all else, or if not, disown your entire family, and live like a hermit.

    good luck to you.
