I dont think it was offensive at all, just a silly miss timed and badly delivered joke at the expense of something that , in another post, most would have laughed at. Not all Il volvos are white with a foot up driver operating them, but enough are to make it a joke. Not really funny but just a silly joke.

The OPs pride at his gifted wife's achievement is fantastic to read and reflects really well on them both. Not everyone has the decency to notice it and be lifted, some as Blair said just lack the couth, but it's not a crime.
