If another recession hits and we slow down I'll just find some outlaw reefer outfit on paper logs and do that deal...

I worked for a Van Lines company back in the late 2000's. The households sector in the trucking industry is small but I worked non stop when the recession hit. There was a lot of people moving out of the city to the midwest or outer cities. There was also a lot of people moving out of big houses to smaller houses or apartments.

The people moving out of 5 bedroom houses into smaller apartments created a storage problem in our warehouses. When I went to deliver, their stuff had to be moved from a 53 ft trailer into two straight trucks for delivery. And MOST OF THE TIME, the customer only wanted important stuff like kitchen, bedroom, living room. So half of the stuff went back to the warehouse for storage or a Uhaul storage. The storage problem was so great that we had to rent 20 dry van trailers to use a storage unit.

All in all, I made a lot of money. The helpers made a lot of money too.

Elevate your skill level above dragging a box from point A to point B and you're much harder to replace. Present yourself professionally and take care of the company equipment like it was your own and you will be just fine.

Good news is I do black top in mn.

It will slow down during a recession though. I’d probably just go back to pulling a tanker part time to make up the difference. I know someone who always needs help hauling diesel and pays well.

The best thing that could happen is a nice long recession. Maybe if times got lean again and people got hungry and cold they might figure out how to earn a day's pay again. I've been saving since 1982-----the last real recession we had------I have zero debt and money in the bank so bring it on. That one in 2009 was a joke.

I agree. I entered the workforce right after that recession. Saved as much as I could. Just waiting for things to tank so I can buy up some land real cheap.

rank, you been out there a LONG TIME, its great to see other drivers, still truckin. we are in a comfortable way of life , we have Medicare, Social Security, Pensions, and major investments. Life is good, NO, Life Is GREAT. The Trucking industry has been very good to us all these years. I had a great time truckin, and can any time, stop. But ill be honest, its scary, i have been doing it for 45 years and to all of the sudden , just stop. I am finding this very hard to do, even though, we are financially set. Dont know if i can do it. But for now, Crank dem dar landing gears UP.
