I went into work a few minutes early to ask her about starting pay. Starting pay for inexperienced delivery driver or someone right out of school is $21/hr with kick ### benefits and 401k. Experienced is negotiable. If you do not have a CDL you go on the truck for 10 months as a driver helper at $16/hr then company gets you ready for your CDL and you start driving at $21/hr. You get a CDL and aren't on the hook for $1,000's to a #### company.
So what is your LTL company paying?

The idea of linehaul drivers making more than city drivers is not a universal truth. That will depend on the individual terminal and how large of an area they cover.Nathanos, LtlAnonymous and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

And if you get delivery pay like the food service guys get with case pay. They can kill it.MACK E-6 Thanks this.

The guys that work close to the barn that can empty a full 48 footer and fill it back up with pickup freight in a hurry could do well like that. I couldn’t because I run too far.Cardfan89 and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

Well it's common enough to be assumed, I never propounded it as a universal truth. No need to argue uncommon exceptions.
Besides, I was speaking about my particular experiences and options at my terminal in contrasting p&d with linehaul; even if it so happens to also be a common shared truth, viz. that linehaul drivers can earn more.Last edited: Sep 18, 2019
jmz, FlaSwampRat and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
No, but there are many who take that as such, and possibly scaring someone away from a place that they may find to be a good place to work especially when we need good drivers here is something I’d personally rather avoid.FlaSwampRat and 2BucTruck Thank this.

You have a genuine good point there. I agreeFlaSwampRat and MACK E-6 Thank this.

There's absolutely no reason to post my check. I don't care what your check looks like. I answered the original question for this post. Good lord I broke down the mileage I ran for a week with a six day and my normal 5 day bid with my pay rate. I have no reason to inflate my pay.Bob Dobalina, speedyk and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

There were definitely rumors of city drivers making more than us linehaul drivers at ABF.
We were paid pretty well per mile, but nothing beats overtime.Cardfan89, BigDog Trucker, MACK E-6 and 1 other person Thank this.
