After nearly 9 years out here I can tell you this about detention times with me.
No increase at all.
In fact, one of the worst offenders in my experience to date - Dollar General - just did a live unload in less than 1.5 hours tonight.
Gotta love these articles that try to claim all sorts of things using polls of people that are unhappy about something.

Figure I'll update my situation from Thurs. Im still sitting here!
Okay not really, lol. I finally got out and grabbed a forklift guy and asked when he planned on unloading the line of trucks waiting. I was directed in broken English to talk to "Colin". Well a journey around and into the office, I found out Colin went to lunch. The office girl walked back out to the warehouse and asked another forklift driver and then explained that those local contractors are paid by the hour, so thats why they dont wait. I immediately said "well after 2hrs, so does my truck and detention time is $100/hr for the truck to sit", my bluff worked and I was pulled around and unloaded in 25min.
So I guess its just gonna have to evolve into lying to these fools who think that letting trucks sit is no big deal.Fuelinmyveins Thanks this. -
Many companies are shifting to temp services. This way the companies can focus on their core business and not have to deal with transportation or forklift drivers, etc.. Some companies even outsource their payroll department. It's also easier to get rid of problem children, simply by telling the temp service to replace them.

We do that all the time with inside delivery fees.upnorthwpg and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

We're dealing with this with one company that uses a tarping company that does nothing but cause drivers issues because they dont do any training for their employees and don't pay them well. We have to fix their half ### job, which costs each driver about an hour, but they get paid for their "service" while we get screwed. My co pays $50 for them spend 10min to lay the tarp over the load, then throw straps all twisted up, crooked and not tightened at all. So $50/truck, 5 trucks/hr on average 12hrs a day.
Temp agencies can be bs. -
Just a thought, take pictures of substandard tarp job , and send the pictures to your company
-
Offer to tarp your load for that $50 instead?
