Hello all. I have posted before and the site was very helpful so I'm back. Prior to becoming a stuntman I drove for a living. I have a upcoming stunt for a Showtime TV show in a tractor trailer and wanted to run it by some of you guys.

So the stunt involves me driving a tanker truck (empty) up a hill. At the top of the hill the driver has a medical issue. The truck proceeds to roll backwards and crash into a bus where it will explode. We will not actually crash, they will just show an explosion over trees as if it actually happened.

I have no problem in reverse. I haven't seen the hill to know how steep it will be or how fast they want me to go. But I do know at the top of the hill they won't want to see brake lights as I shift into reverse because the driver is supposed to be unconscious. And in case it's a steep hill, I want to be in gear as to not get into a runaway situation. What are your thoughts on getting in reverse when the trucks momentum stops without hitting brakes?

*I also don't know the type of truck or transmission at this time. It will probably be a standard Eaton fuller etc...

Why worry about not hitting the brakes? I'm assuming this is a closed set at that point. Just simply disconnect the brake lights so you can brake all you want. If the show wants to see lights back there, put it on a toggle switch in the cab.

Coast to a stop and slide it into reverse as you start to roll backwards?

Decades ago, we used the wire in a kill switch for the brake lights. Came in handy when you needed to brake without attention.

Thats what i was think'in. Unplug the lights, or pull the wire off the stoplight switch. Always kinda dreamed about hooking my brake lights to a toggle switch. Then when one of these tailgating knuckle heads are 6 inches off my tail, flip switch and apply brakes. See if there can do..can keep up with their want to. I know , big trouble if caught pulling that trick. Just a thought.

They won't want to see brake lights on camera. But yes, disconnected brake lights seem like a good idea. They may not want that delay however. Sorry if coast to a stop and immediately start backwards. Trying to prepare for every scenario.

That was my first idea. Just not something I do or did on a daily basis. I'm going to try that in rehearsal.
