Had my heart set on becoming a trucker for 2 years now. I moved from Washington state to Illinois in order to be a part of Academy 160 which has a paid tuition and hired plan from swift. But then i got stopped in my tracks.. The 2nd phone call with the school a branch manager told me that i wouldn't be allowed in the program because i haven't had my license for over 1 year yet.... Ugh...ARE you kidding me... I contacted swift directly on facebook and they told me the same thing . Is there anyway around this? Another school that hires and trains? Some other trucking company or program? Another state? Or some signing contract? Perhaps local driving instead of Otr? A smaller company with less regulations? I can't let all this be for nothing... I moved from a small town that had nothing but temp job work... I finally got enough work to save for a car and put all my savings into moving here. This can't be the end of my dream. I can't go back to Washington because my own family was constantly kicking me out and having me live out of my car because of their angry drinking and drug problems... And my room mate i moved in with has bipolar and releases her anger on me and her kids an lords over me with threats that she can kick me off the lease. Any help/advice on schools ect from anyone would be appreciated... I'm stressing out losing my mind over this. Trucking and being on the road was my way of being free from 2 years of living with lunatics and earning a wage good enough to finally afford my own home. There has to be a option to my problem somewhere. Fellow truckers... Brothers an sisters help me.
CDL school/trucker company if you haven't had license for 1 year???!

Get a non-cdl driving job for now. At least this way you have an income. You'll be driving a non-cdl truck or cargo van. Some of those you can run all 48 states.
You chose probably the worst state for a trucker to get a trucking career started.
Which city are you living in? Can you move to another state?Last edited: Sep 24, 2019
