In ontario the max of the towed vehicle is 4,600kg. Does this include the load on said trailer or is that just it being empty?

Says “gross vehicle weight”.
That would be the entire weight of the trailer and it’s contents (load). -
So ill need a class A restricted licence then. Ontario really blows with there strict trailer laws.

I have been driving between Ontario and BC for a year and didn't even know it was a loaded trailer until i seen something online somewhere. Never been pulled over and weigh stations are pretty much never open on the trans canada highway. And the odd one that was open i just weighed in and got green light and on my way. I haul cars so ill have to cancel my loads until i get class A restricted licence.

I know a fellow that got stopped in Manitoba at the West Hawk scale, one ton dually pulling a fifth wheel flat deck. Just had a regular Alberta licence, wasn’t good enough for Manitoba. He had to put his trailer onto a flat deck before they let him leave.

That's a light A CDL, restricted would be the word.
Im not sure about car licensing here in the STates but you cannot haul very much considering. A medium cabin boat at most. Maybe 20 foot and yea high. Or a modest RV. Anything bigger is gonna need a bigger license.
Thats one of the joys of a full CDL A, you can run anything you like and not be picky about weights provided you are legal on gross, axle, permits etc. -
Restricted A here is pretty much haul any weight only no air brakes and can't teach a new A driver. Your only weight limit is the trailer. Also here hauling RV trailer you dont need a special license as long as the truck is capable of safely towing it.stillwurkin Thanks this.

Oh yea..got me a 45 foot motorhome, a huge boat behind it, or at times my big chevy suburban. Never drove anything larger than my old vw bug. Now i run with all the truckers on the big roads. Got my poodle pup sitting on my lap, with his paws on the steering wheel..helping me steer.
