i meant for him to SHUT UP about this plan with OTHER COMPANY DRIVERS that he is friends with, cuz at any time, ONE OF THEM can be a rat and ruin his venture..

never question my advice, in the manner in which you did....
until you HAVE 48 YEARS INTO THIS LIKE I DO..
i question why YOU were the ONLY PERSON to make such a crass statement to me, over the DOZENS or so of members here that KNOW ME.
Question about ethics

Once he gets with his lawyer and gets the skinny then he can make a move. Very few things in life have you guilty for simply asking a what if question and this aint one of them

I used to have a direct Alaska customer, who would abandon me every time a certain guy would con somebody into letting him have a truck. He would lose it a few months later and I would be back in. Finally I hauled soem loads for them that all other carriers had damaged bring them up the alcan. They liked that and told me if I would put one more truck on, I could do all their freight and they would not mess with anybody else. I bought a somewhat specialized trailer for their freight and another truck, hauled two loads with it before the old cheap guy got another truck. Then I was going to have to share the freight with him, till he lost that one. I just decided I did not want any more of their business at all and cut my losses.
There are no guarantees in this business, except for signed contracts, and they can get sketchy at times, but a guy never gets anywhere without taking chances.
If a guy has a desire to ever get his own authority and maybe expand down the road, having a dependable steady outbound direct freight is the best way a guy can start, if and only if, it pays well enough .FoolsErrand and olddog_newtricks Thank this. -
Do you have any idea what the customer pays? You may make even less than you do now.
