I think this is a round about way to 'attack the 'LEASE OPTION' scamming trucking companies out there.

There's certainly a lot of them around....

California Bill Means 'End for Independent Trucking'

Myself, i hope they 'choke' companies that Scam Truckers into 'ONE CARRIER lease/options' (very few if any are able to turn a good profit) and ITS not really a true 'LEASE' if you are obligated to one carrier.

The issue is that Mr Johnny BigStack wants to take a particular load somewhere there.

Dispatcher says no. You drive here or get nothing at all for a week.

You understand this doesn’t just pertain to lease purchases correct?

Not sure (that's why i put it out there)

I'm also not sure how far Ca. got with this bill?

Do you know the answer? (because the article is 'NOT CLEAR' about this)

As far as I know it’s passed in CA. Hopefully it doesn’t spread to the rest of the country. It doesn’t just affect the trucking industry, the way it’s written is that you can’t hire independent contractors to engage in the same business as your main business. Many industries such as doctors, hairdressers, etc have already gotten exemptions from this for some reason. But they’re convinced that if you’re an independent contractor in the trucking industry you’re misclassified no matter what. So take me for example. I own my truck, my name is on the title, and if I lived in CA I couldn’t lease my truck onto a company and run under their authority. That’s why it’s bad. They’re focused on the misclassified port workers and those doing lease purchases but meanwhile they are ending a business model that’s been around for as long as people have needed authority to move freight.

So essentially landstar, mercer, etc , all the companies that run that type of business model will be effected by this? This could get interesting. I bet it will spread like wildfire, now that california has passed it

Yes. People will be establishing residency in other states if they want to continue with companies that lease on owner operators. It blows my mind how people can think that someone who owns their truck but is leased on to carrier should be treated the same as an employee.

Not sure i follow you. Hairdressers, Drs, ??

SO you are saying you can't run under 'another s authority' AND be independent---you must be employee? (according New Law)?

I would recomend that truckers move out of Cali unless your going to stay company driver. Cali signed off on the new smog check for diesel trucks now also. With the over the top regs, carb, smog checks, and anti truck, high tax, anti business attitude, Cali is not the place to be for OO's. Even alot of megas moved out.

In the long run anti business California will also hurt the people who live here with higher prices for the things we buy. I wonder if you all know that a gallon of gas out here is now $4.00 a gallon and up!
