I cannot tell you how many times I've jockeyed back and forth with a governed truck of similar speed. If I'm lighter, I can pull ahead going up hills, then they have the weight to push themselves by me going down hill... or vice versa. I'll usually set my cruise 2-3 miles slower just to remain sane.
Most runs I'd be doing are similar to what I do now, 200-400 mile runs one way. I'm a tightwad, so my natural tendency is to drive slower.
Which truck/engine combo?

The 2018 DT12 I drive has a PTO, also has the DD13 which I really like. The mechanics (I work with) have told me that the DD13 and the Paccar MX13 both have proven reliable up to 500K miles when our company sells them. I was just wondering if the bigger engines had some kind of fuel economy advantage. I know the DD13 450hp struggles up hills... I could live with it, but would prefer not to.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
If your current truck is a fleet truck then your dd13 is probaly neutered.. the dd13 goes up to 1850 tq and the dd15 goes to 1750.. fleet trucks are usually spec 450hp and below and around 1550-1650tq for fuel mileage.. truck specs make all the difference.. and no the smaller 13l engines will have better mpg than their larger counterparts on typical otr work, especially if talking the dd enginesTanksmuch Thanks this.

Yes, it's a fleet truck, 450 hp and 1650 torque is what it shows in the mechanics computer, 1350 rpm @ 65 mph. It's limited in all sorts of ways best I can tell, trying to squeeze all the miles they can out of 1 gallon of fuel... don't blame them, they have 1,100 trucks

I’ve read a lot about the mp8 500/1850 and the 12 speed m-drive.....
P.S. The MX sucks ....
Trucker186 and Tanksmuch Thank this. -
Kit truck, DD 60, no def, no regen, no paying dealer 5k to get rid of check engine light for a few days after a week in their shop. And the best part, no California.
ChevyCam, Tanksmuch, starmac and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think those trucks are getting a $40,000 premium these days
-
Yeah and that 90 miles makes a big difference too somebody like me were cramming 630+ miles a day every weekend. That's the difference between getting home at 7:30 or 9:00
-
It can make the difference between getting offloaded/loaded or neither.alds, starmac and Trucker186 Thank this.

You can still buy one for the same or less than a new one.Rolling18 Thanks this.
