I also posted this in electronic connection but got no responses.I have a 2500 watt 5000 peak inverter and was wondering if anyone could tell me if this will work or not.I was gonna run the power cable from the battery to a 80 amp inline fuse then into another 80 amp inline fuse the run the cable up to my inverter. The reason for this is because I can not find anythin larger then a 80 amp inline fuse here locally, and everyone is tellin me to run at least a 100 amp fuse. The only thing that I can find larger then the 80 amp inline fuse is a 200 amp ANL fuse but have no idea how to hook one up,if anyone has any other suggestions or can tell me how to wire up a ANL fuse it would be greatly appreciated.

You can ask for help online but you cant search for a supplier for 100 watt fuses online??? Just a thought.

You could try your local high end car audio shop as well, they can order what you need if they dont have it in stock.

    Ok, electricity crash course.....

Putting two 80 amp fuses inline is still only 80 amps of total capacity. Using an 80 amp fuse will not hurt anything, its just going to limit your wattage capacity. Lets do the math and see what you really need....

13.5 volts (running voltage of most 12v systems) times 80 amps = 1080 watts
    12 volts times 80 amps = 960 watts

Doing the math even a 100 amp fuse will only give you 1350 watts capacity max.

What you can do is run two 80 watt fuses in parallel which gives you 2160/1920 watts capacity. Ultimately you're going to need either a 200 watt fuse or a pair of 100's in parallel to be able to use your max rated steady state power. This doesnt address your 5000 watts surge peak unless you use slow blow fuses which will allow an overcurrent for a short time before blowing.. a few seconds.

And please keep in mind the wire ga required to support 2500 watts of 12vdc... we're talking something the size of your trucks starter cable.

Its the little details the make trucks burn and companies ban inverters

I am not using the full 2500 watts probably more like 1000,I have a small fridge,a microwave,my Tv ,dvd player,playstation2 and an alarm clock running off of it.I got the 2500 watt cuz I got a great deal on it.And I got 4 guage cable for it do you think that will be adaquate to run it.

Go to a stereo install shop, get an ANL 200-400 amp
"Cut Cable" fuse.(I have a 400 amp on my Cobra 2500)
Choose where you want the fuse(out of sight)
Cut the cable, strip the ends and stick the (4ga)wire in both ends. Tighten the lugs with an allen wrench and your done.

    To simple!

ANL fuses are easy... first you need an ANL fuse holder, you cut your cable to fit, strip the ends, shove them in the fuse holder and screw down the clamping screws, normally an allan set screw. Then you install the fuse which is held by two normal button head screws. Simple and easy. You can get the fuses and holders from Audio shops and I've even seen them in a well stocked Walmart.

4 gauge cable can handle 125 amps of power for a reasonable length. Obviously this means if you use 4 ga cable installing a 200 amp fuse is pointless because the cable will fail long before the fuse.

With what you have available what I'd do is run a pair of 4 ga to your inverter, then install an 80 amp fuse in each cable as close to the batteries as possible. This is whats known as "parallel". Also make sure your ground cable can handle as much current as the power cable otherwise it becomes the fuse.

I imagine if you're headed to Cali from Altoona you'll be headed across the Buckeye on I70. If you like you can take a break in Springfield and I'll look over your install.

    RLIGHT276 Thanks this.
