All trucks have this no way to stop it. It's just soot.
-
I drive a 07 WesternStar with a 515hp. Series60 Detroit. I have sooty pipes. I think it is common. If your getting good fuel mileage and running great I think you have nothing to worry about.
My best guess is that the low sulfur fuel we are using is causing the soot. -
Oh when you wash the truck avoid washing the soot i ruined a decent shirt washing the inside of the pipe.
-
HA! Why in the world would you wash or even think of washing the inside of the pipes???
-
I've seen some newer trucks with the DPF that the inside of the pipes were almost as clean as the outside.
-
Oh come on now....in 19 years. You ain't figured out that it burns diesel?

Wax my friend....wax. No way to avoid the soot due to the wax. -
That kw needs to look clean to pass up triots.
-
That's funny. No just curios because my 3406E did'nt have sooty pipes.Did'nt know if it might be an air sensor or something on the Acert.

We have a 6nz and the pipe is still sooty.
