So, for giggles tell me if this would be legal: On Duty status clearly starts in Cincinnati, but the rider (non CDL Driver) drives the truck from Cincinnati to Peoria which should be legal because it is under 26,001 GVWR. Let's say that takes 5 hours, the CDL driver logs the time as on duty and then takes over when they hook to the trailer. He then will have 9 hours of drive time available, correct? Could this work?
This could effectively allow them to gain an hour of drive time which might in a perfect world allow the drive to be completed in one 14 hour duty cycle. But the driver's math is nuts, he says he'll average 70 mph. I say he is crazy and he'll average 55 which is what I use to average all of my runs. He's nuts...It is still going to be a two day drive...
