Yes I Agree- keep in mind a few things though.......

IF you are a motor carrier, Theres a good chance you and I Would no longer exist- (Even tho Ive had authority 20 plus years)

Only Strong, Capacity Driven, Would Hold authorities to Bid on Freight Lanes
Authorities Would NOT be given out like candy- like it is today.

Will it Shape up Rates,Make things a more even playing field, Knock out thousands of Brokers and drive the costs up for consumables??

    You better believe it will.

Nobody wants to hear that better rates for hauling #### means you'll pay more for that ####.

Why can't drivers, especially o.o bypass the broker and pocket that little bit more?

As a driver you can't, owner ops can and do but it takes a lot of time and effort.

I've been doing months of research on this topic. The gray area is between the shipper and broker. The shipper/company wants to save money which pushes back on the broker, which pushes back on trucking company, which pushes back on the driver. Bypass the trucking co and broker. This tells me if you want to get into trucking for good money you need to own your own business and book your own loads, too many other entities in your pocket otherwise. This confirms why I hear MOSTLY, not all, company drivers concerned with low pay and oversaturation. So when I hear a lot of negative comments and posts I take it with a grain of salt as I don't know his/her situation, but with further investigation, very often they're company drivers. Let me be clear, I'm not a driver, owner, or anything related to the business. I'm simply an observer researching a new career opportunity.

It's not that Gray. For example: a shipper is paying a rate of $3 per mile to get his goods delivered. The broker takes it and then offers the load for $1.20 per mile keeping the difference for his cut. People will call about the load and ask for more money & the broker will claim " that's all I've got in it" because he knows at some point some bottom feeder will haul it for that.

We do. It's called a direct shipper..
Have to have your own operating authority.. (icc/mc#)

But when I take direct customer freight out of FL to say WV, I dont have any direct customers there. Have to take brokered freight out..
