Every truck I have been assigned has bearing type grease in the socket/pockets where the hood sets when it is closed.
Is it necessary to use grease for its hydro-tension anti-vibration qualities, or can a simple lithium or teflon spray lubricate be used. I would like to use something that is alot cleaner, but don't know what harm I would be doing if I did.
I welcome any thoughts on this.
Hood Grease????

Our shop uses a white lithium style.
You ARE talking about the ring sockets that catch the Hood pins when you close... normally round receptacles mounted near the firewall?Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
That is what Im talking about, but on my 2014 Peterbilt 579 does not have round circle type, more like a pocket slot.

'I' think the lube is just there to keep the rubber bits from wearing down too quickly. I'm not a fan of big flops of grease, though, as with a split window you have to climb to get it really clean. I keep enough on there to let the parts move freely.

My Mack has the same pocket style, we grease them to keep the hood from squeaking/rattling. IIRC, we use the same grease we use on the 5th wheel, although in the winter that can be like fighting the hood to open.

Your talking about the pocket styles that are up near the windshield? I've heard of drivers placing a sock ( that you wear on your feet ) over them to help stop the squeaking.

I've always had good luck with Lucas Red n Tacky, either Tube, Tub or Spray Can. It stays put also!

if you ever had one dry out and start squeaking you'd know.lol. it will drive you crazy trying to find it.
