While I agree with you on the money talks portion. What I’m trying to say is the percent of o/o is a lot less then say 15 or 25 years ago. Which is sad. Also I do believe the megas would much rather pay a driver hourly instead of by the mile, and the ELDs help with that.
Eld repeal, odds?

What would you consider to be a fair hourly wage for OTR?
-
That’s a good question, I honestly couldn’t give you a answer. I’m a o/o and durning the summer I’m making over $100 a hr gross if I count the amount i make vs the time spent doing that run. That being said, let’s say a driver makes .60 cpm. Average speed is 50mph outside the city. So .60 x 50mph = 30. Kinda low in my opinion, but like I said I never been a driver.

spare me. there are many posts on this forum about guys driving at dangerously low speeds to keep their ELD from changing status. that's cheating, just the same as driving at dangerously fast speeds to beat the clockwore out, stayinback, Oxbow and 1 other person Thank this. -
No it isn't. Nobody is driving at dangerously low speeds on any highway. If people creep, it's at the truck stop, shipper/receiver etc. Nobody is advancing a load at that speed if 5 mph. That was not a good argument at all
-
While people might not be advancing a load at 5mph I can say from personal experience, fighting that dam clock I’ve done some stupid and reckless stuff. Worse one was burning my brakes coming down the grapevine. Learned my lesson and thank God no one was injured but I did ruin a brand new set of brakes. I know some people are for ELDs while other are against it. To debate this was not the purpose of this thread. I simply wanted to know what people’s thoughts where on the probability of it getting repealed with the new data. Like most said, sadly very unlikely.
-
Bro, I wasn't trying to make it a debate either. The comment that poster made just warranted my response. Now as for the data, why doesn't anybody look at other reasons for the crashes? Many veterans are leaving, newer younger drivers are coming in......there are guys with not even a year experience that are trainers at some companies. Makes me wonder if they powers that be, who have the ability to repeal or not, know some of this other stuff. It wont get repealed because nobody can prove that elds are the reason for those crashes. I just don't understand why the data is only connected to eldsAndystrans Thanks this.

The data isn't. All the data is, is raw number of fatalities in 2018. Some opinion piece is trying to connect it to ELD's with no other data.bryan21384 Thanks this.

Hogwash. Theres a post on here somewhere in which a guy said he was at the intersection in front of a truck stop and he had to creep through the intersection. Really doesn't matter where you cheat the ELD though. If you trick the device you are not being honest

While you do have a valid point, like I’ve mentioned before. I personally found myself speeding more just to beat that eld clock. I’ve also witnessed some really reckless actions taken by company drivers in newer truck so the probability of them racing to beat the clock is reasonable to assume. Does it justify the action or make it less wrong? Of course not, no excuse to drive recklessly. Does it happen, yes and I know it happened before the mandate. However I don’t believe it’s far fetch to assume that drivers are driving more careless and taking greater risks because they have less flexibility when it comes to their drive/on duty time. I’m not advocating for west coast turn arounds, and I know the fmcsa is looking into changing some laws to give drivers the option to use pc so they can make it to the closets safe place to do their 10hr reset. I think that’s great and needed without question, but to consider that the eld mandate is possibly responsible for the increase in cmv fatalities isn’t far fetched if you ask me.
