I posted this in the new driver frorum but figured I’d come to you guys too.
I’m a new driver. Like 2 weeks on the road solo.
I drive a 2019 Peterbilt 579.
I’m trying to install a cobra 29 LTD Classic.
I can’t lol.
let’s start by saying I’m not technically inclined, though by what I’m seeing I shouldn’t have to be.
I’m looking at the open slot, and I see the antenna wire, a power input, and the speaker cable already preinstalled.
However, the center CB panel isn’t large enough for the cobra 29 LTD classic.
there’s a similar panel on the left of it that does look big enough, however there’s a plastic cover on it, and I’m too stupid to figure it out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

pocket knife...cut hole...problem solved!

I’ve managed to get it installed...I think.
I’ve got power, but I don’t hear anything lol I’ve never had one before -
Turn your volume up about half or three quarters, then ease the squelch counter-clockwise until all of a sudden you'll hear static. Then turn the squelch clockwise until the static noise stops. That's generally where those two controls will stay most of the time. Theres other controls like RF gain et al but let's get you started first

10-4, picking up some chatter, but very limited range. At most maybe a half mile

That's probably about right for factory antennas. You wont find many fans of factory antennas and/or factory coax on this forum. I'll let other guys familiar with your make/model of truck advise you of affordable aftermarket options.
You'll be glad you made the purchase. It blows me away how many drivers dont have radios on these days. Today I had two loaded ambulances blow past me on I-26 in SC and I tried to warn drivers ahead of me. The drivers I saw stayed put in the hammer and middle lanes and the ambulances ended up going around in the right laneFinfn1372 Thanks this. -
Hesitant to get into doing too much as a company driver for a mega.
I don’t intend on staying with them longer than a year. -
You can make huge gains with not too much money, and most of it you can take with you

Check the antennas and make sure they are in good condition and follow instructions in cb owners manual on how to check SWR, it may not be acceptable, and a small investment in new antennas may be the answer.

Followed the Calibration steps, very limited range. Will probably invest in an antenna once I have a little bit of money
