We don't live in area where oilfield work is at. I know a person could relocate but that's not feasible for us. We have grandkids to visit when we're home.

If it weren't so many things regulations wise that companies have to pay out, I think drivers could see more money. I see so many owner ops out here that talk about their expenses, and it is expensive....for one truck! Just imagine that multiplied by the 200 or so trucks Climate has. I wouldn't say OTR is a waste of life for me. The pay can always be better, but the lifestyle fits me and my personality for sure.
Vic Firth Thanks this. -
Yea my wife and i both like it here at climate as far as the office people go and the miles we get. We're content for now but I'm sure in a year or so we may entertain doin something different like flatbed or tanker work. I'd like to do something that has more of a challenge to it than reefer or dry vans.
Vic Firth Thanks this. -
Totally agree that the one that benefits most from work is the government, this one is corrupt and views us as free range tax slaves.
I love tanker, and if i found someone that pays well at that i would definately, done flatbed, hate it and if you are older i would steer you away from it becuase the ball sweat isnt worth the money being that most dont make anymore. -
I broke in doing flatbed. It was a lot of work and the same money is being made pulling other trailers OTR. In fact, I've made more pulling reefer than any other trailer. Flatbed was just fun at times. The game in out securement for certain loads was fun....I am not old by a long shot, but the lifting of the tarps and carrying them on my shoulder wears after a while. Plus, working outside in extreme cold or heat is never fun

Right, i have done it in extremes in OF, but that was for a lot better then OTR and still sucked.
How is this week shaping up for you? And do you guys have fridges in the trucks? -
Yea climate has fridges in all of the Volvo 760 trucks. Not sure how the other guys week is going but me an my wife will have about 6500 miles in by Saturday morning. Should get most of those put on this week. It's our best week we've had since we started teaming.
-
Its shaping to be another 2700 mile week. I got just shy of 2800 last week. I am a Kansas to Alabama run now. I think they're gonna take it off of me when I get to St Louis. The trucks don't have fridges but its definitely room to put one in. Mine doesn't have the cabinets on the passenger side. I like that extra space there
-
Yea enjoy the extra open space where the closet was while ya can cuz when ya get one of the new 760 volvos they won't take the closet out or that's what i been told by the shop. We're in a 760 it's designed different as far as the dash is concerned and it has small fridge in it. We're in Nevada. Headed for st.louis soon as i get trailer tire fixed.
-
Im sure gonna soak it in, so the 760 isn't as spacious?
