Sure. They can ask for an extension. QCs haven't functioned very well for several years. There are 500+ other compliant devices. The FMCSA isn't going to give them too long if they give them any time at all. The law is the law.
Qualcomms are and have been garbage. I'm hoping FMCSA finds the omnitracs devices that aren't working noncompliant forcing companies to upgrade. It needs to happen.
Before company's that are looking away whistling now start being effected by having al qaeda the drivers who are also foolishly blowing this off be fined and taken OOS by DOT.
The fact that that can happen is enough for me to avoid a fine and scar on my record and tell my company I can't legally run any more until they fix or replace qualcomm in my truck. If more drivers would do that instead of taking the risk the solution to this mess would come a lot quicker.

I was on hometime when the system went down(in fact it malfunctioned 2 hours after I had shutdown for hometime). Aside from a couple times when it rebooted/updated my ELD has been cooperative. I actually spent 6 days at home (fleet manager gave me an extra day) and when I had inquired about the situation I was told half of the fleet was back to normal, half were still having issues. I guess I lucked out in being shutdown and logged out of the system when ish hit the fan!
