On occasion. Today’s engines don’t seen to leak like years ago.
Get a STRONG flashlight. Make them clean INTO the frame rail recesses along engine.
Same for looking at engine from underneath. Dirty all the way up.
And get on top of air cleaner , pointing out it’s still dirty seen from top down.
Make them regret it.RubyEagle, Midnightrider909, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -
I have it washed in the winter for salt removal but they usually do a crappy rinse so I dont bother other than that .
motocross25 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
Never had a problem with the engine on my 1997 after getting engine washed . Hell they even furnish a flash light so you can make sure they did a good job...
Midnightrider909 Thanks this. -
I always had the engines washed and still do. I did have trouble once. My driver got a wash at the bubble bath, just on the west side of kingman. he made it about 4 miles and the truck just shut off, the tow truck driver told him he was lucky, that he pulled them right out of the wash bay a lot. lol
The ecm had to be replaced, I never knew if it had anything to do with the truck wash or just a coincidence, but what the tow truck driver said sure weighed on my mind.Midnightrider909 Thanks this. -
Been washing my diesel pick up trucks of every make and model for years ( used to own towing companies and now I’m in oilfield hot shot) never had any problem with blue beacon engine wash. Makes it easier to find leaks and just keeps the engine bay looking new.
Plus as we all know the truck runs better after it’s washed lol -
I wash my engine couple months, I as soon as hit the highway stop engine come on, no power I get tow to shop, they let dry for while and hook to computer no code every was good. So be careful on wires.

I don’t remember the last time I washed my engine. The main reason I don’t wash it is because it’s not dirty or oily. I keep my engine really dry. It’s good to keep it that way, so whenever there’s a leak, you can find it.
Most of the trucks I’ve driven have oil leaks all over the place. I remember a mechanic from a mega fleet told me that those leaks were okay and that all trucks leak oil. He’s probably right, but we all know DOT will not concur.
If I had to wash my engine, I’d probably bobtail to a carwash and do it myself. I wouldn’t trust those guys with the electrical wires. Plus, their pressure washer is very powerful. That thing is always taking pieces of paint off my hood! Yes, the paint on my hood is really thin. -
