Finding Reefer Loads out of South Florida

Owner operators are known for making stuff up or leaving out important details. For example, some of the folks who get paid a very high cpm are local and not running many miles per week.

One way to deal with Florida is to get a very high paying load going in. The other option is to deliver north of FL, so you can deadhead to GA for a load.

I remember an o/o from FL telling me that he avoids FL altogether, and when it’s time for home time, he just takes a plane to FL.

I had worked for a company who had a driver out of Florida and did the exact same thing. The owner flew him home and back, much cheaper. If these instances don't tell the story about Florida, I don't know what does

 

Trick to FL is take a short load out.. Don't try to take a load to WI, MI, the NE or Cali because they will try to pay you $1/mile the entire way.. You take the $1/mile to SC, NC, VA, GA or TN.. do a short hop then get a better paying load in those areas.. Never take a long run out of FL.. That or Deadhead to GA..

 

That’s also the method I use whenever I end up in a cheap freight region like the northeast. I take a one-day load out of that region. It’s best to get paid low for one day of work than for multiple days.

Yeah exactly and the worst is going from say FL to NE.. A lot of guys get tempted with those loads because they pay "kinda" ok for a load coming out of FL, but then you end up in another bad area to get out of.
