Its because their bucket trucks require a cdl w/ airbrakes. The power company here in NJ will hire guys without their cdl and give them a year to get it. If they arent able to do it in that year, then they get booted from the job.
Thatd be funny if he failed for not putting on his seatbelt when hes gonna be working on power lines lol.HoneyBadger67 Thanks this. -
He stated above a 10 speed international with a flat 40 to 50 ft.
Lol -
myself I wouldn't test until I was confident in my shifting
On my road test I had another rig turn left in front of me as I was going thru a green uphill, forcing me to brake unexpectedly and I managed to recover just barely
If you can't shift it when everything is ideal what are you going to do when something unforeseen occurs? -
I like to rev er up to about 3k rpm in 1st, then pop her over to 8. Sure, the truck #### near stalls out n the gears grind like hell and the engine is about to explode, but it makes less work for me. LolLast edited: Nov 23, 2019
meechyaboy and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
I've done that in the 7 speed trucks we have when I'm heading back empty and my knees are sore. 2-7-hammer down lol.

Hell yeah, hammer down brother! I was only kidding about 1st. I never use anything below 3rd unless Im real heavy. When I bobtail, I'll take off from 6th the whole time. 1st gear is for nerds!firemedic2816 and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

You shouldn't be feathering the clutch/brake.
Start in first or second (if empty) , take foot completely off brake engage clutch press accelerator. -
When i took my CDL test in Tn i asked the evaluator what gear he wanted me to down shift to.. he said here is my rule on the CDL test
1) Don’t get me killed or anyone else
2) Dont hit anyone or anything
3) don’t care about anything else
If you feel Like floating gears or skipping gears i don’t really care. Just do it safely and we will be okay
Drove around town and Interstates for about an hour and never had any issuesFlaSwampRat Thanks this. -
Montana will fail for floating gears. A shop mechanic had to get his cdl & they failed him for it first time.
