That's true, but the white/blueish light can cause problem falling asleep after stopping to drive for sleep.

Exposure to the white light slows down or shuts off the release of melatonin, a hormon that signals the brain that it should slow down and go to sleep.
This may result in more difficulties to fall asleep, and to have less REM sleep, waking up less rested/relaxed the next morning.

I'm not a truck driver myself, but spend too much time behind laptop screen, which causes similar effects. If I don't switch off several hours before going to sleep, I have problems.
And I travel a lot, all over the world. Jet-lag combined with late work on my laptop in the hotel room is killing, at least for me.

guys do you know anything related to Navistar start using Scania gearbox and common engine with Scania/MAN?

next year VW will release "common base engine" which both scania and man will use. man calls it d30, which means it is probably based on scania block. i saw one cylinder head (scania use now 6 individual) man use 1.
    it will be SCR only.

they told in public long time ago that scania will make 13L engines while MAN will make 5-9L engines.

but they dont mention 15-16L engine class. i heard rumors 4-5years ago vw wants to stop scania v8, but i doubt about that, even crazy bosnian guy did not manage to stop that. (he bought engine block cast factory and close it to make revange to vw). man 15L engine is not something worth mentioning, man is considered as mid price fleet truck and 15L engine is very rare choice. similar as international in USA.

man already offers d15 9L engine with up to 400hp and 476hp engine brake.
man use 15.2L inline 6 engine with 816hp strong engine brake. that leads me that 12.8L engine will have probably close to 700hp engine brake.

so far scania never had engine brake, only law obligatory exhaust brake (360hp on 13L engines). their philosophy is that engine is used for pulling not for braking, while industry leading retarder take care of braking . but i think vw dont have any understanding.

with its crazy way of thinking, vw will destroy scania and its image/sense, you dont buy scania because of money, but for emotions.
dont know how much will they let man to deal with engines, but man have reputation of bad engine manufacturer since ever. their engines have head problems since ever, you will get pressure in expansion tank out of normal. till now you could overheat scania engine without any consequences

that means that you need another tacho card :D
i heard that you need to avoid blue light 2hours before you go to sleep.
white light in car (audi/vw is worst) make me problem for my brain, i like to drive bmwfor this.
i always switch interior lights in car to orange/red.
i have huge problems to sleep in hotels, if i manage to get 3-4h of sleep that is excelent. i dont have problems with blue light and getting sleep, i always use my mobile phone just seconds before i go to sleep while in bed

I don't know about Navistar, but a dutch magazine did an interview with Henrik Henriksson, CEO of Scania, and Anders Gau, lead engineer for Scania's V8 engines.

Gau predicts that the V8 will be around for the next years or so.

Henriksson says Scania are working on new versions of the V8. The V8 engine will remain very important for Scania, also in the future. Scania and MAN will share many parts and components, but the V8 will be for Scania only

It is in a magazine, so not sure how much of it is true.....

It is in dutch, not sure if there is an english version. If not, Google is your friend.

I saw 1 picture of the new inline 6:

I'm wondering if it is indeed a one-piece valve cover, or if it is just a plastic cover over 6 individual heads?

Infrastructure is growing fast for the passenger cars. Not much investment needed for a charging station for a few cars.
Specially when comparing the required investment for other alternatives like CNG or LNG or Hydrogen.

For trucks (specially large numbers of them, like on highway truckstop or filling stations), it may be different. Much more Amps/Power needed to charge a truck in short time.

It largely depends on the use and application of the vehicle, like with anything else.

If you drive short distances, and can charge overnight (at home base), it is becoming an alternative for internal combustion cars. That is also how CNG started for the garbage trucks and busses.

Price of the cars will have to come down though.
In my opinion still to expensive, even with all the tax advantages.

My wife is considering an electric car to commute to work.
Yesterday I saw Opel is introducing an electric Corsa (small car). Retail price almost 30k Euro.
A lot of money for such small car.

When she heard that price she decided to continue to pollute for a few more years with her trusty 15 year old Fiat....

we get here 9300€ of support by country.

i did calculation, if we shift completely to electric vehicles (including trucks) we would need exact 2x more electric power than now, you can get that much reliable energy only from nuclear or coal energy (since everyone would charge them overnight, so sun energy dont help too much).
tree huggers will not be happy with this.

also try to imagine how much would take/cost to make infrastructure that can support so much energy.

considering that oil price is very low comparing to fuel price, all that goes into tax to country. if we start to use electric vehicles more they will need to raise price of electricity , they have to get money from somewhere.
