I just had my 12.7 Series 60 rebuilt and I was wondering how many miles I should go before draining the oil. I normally do 20,000 mile services but I was thinking about running it 5,000 and dropping the oil. Thoughts?

I'd say 5 - 10k if it was me. Especially as cheap as it is on the older motors.

Don't know if you do synthetic or synthetic blend, but I'd stick with normal oil until the rings are seated.

Limit your idling or set at a high idle . Run it as you normally would don’t baby it too much .. oil change around 7500 to 10000 miles for first one and maybe 3/4 your normal interval for the second one. Your first oil change has more metal and fuel in it due to break in wear process ..

Considering most motors these days have synthetic from day 1.

Run a short interval. And normal from the second oil on out.

My cars and bikes go 500 to it's first oil change. Normal there after.

You already know about the contaminates. You want to get em out sooner rather then later.

Me personally would go 1,000 to flush. Second at 5,000 to finish the break in. Normal routine after.

    But that's just me.

The first oil change is done to get whatever contaminates that got in there during the inframe out. A few hundred miles is all it needs at most. By then it's done everything it's going to do as far as cleaning and anything after that you're just running contaminated oil for no reason.
