Can a truck dealership remotely disable my truck?

Datalink issues. Check that the affected modules have power, keyed power and ground. Then check that the J1939 datalink wires to those modules aren't damaged.

 

A dealership can not but the Finance company might be able to.

I remember many years back cars where fitted with some sort of tracking device for financing reasons just in case payments where not made and the vehicle disabled for it to be recovered.

these vehicles where financed by some small time financing companies.

 

Did this dash light come on?

Don't know about dealers being able to shut you down with a truck but federal law prohibits a dealer from doing that with cars. Remember Mel Far, used to play for the DTW Lions, had several dealerships. Sold to slow/no pay buyers. They would shut them down and track them for repo. Feds said no you don't.

 

That was not too long ago. Pretty common in the subprime lending. Sometimes they just shut the vehicle down for no cash money due that day and hour right there on the freeway. otherwise it increasingly became a pest pestering you for moola as the due date got closer. If you didnt pay and got into the thing no go no start etc. Until you paid.

 

You guys beat me to it. I have a buddy that has a buy here pay here car lot here in Florida and I know he at least used to have them in the cars for the no pay problems. Not sure if he still does, didn't know it's illegal now.
