Just curious, but, do trucking companies ask for resumes? Obviously this is my first go at it. I just want to begin constructing one geared towards the profession. Currently my resume reflects over 20 years of mental health jobs, drug programs, methadone clinics, etc.
Another dumb question....

It’s not so much the resume, they need your work history for the past 10 years, in detail, with exact dates. It is a dot requirement for them to hire you. Doesn’t matter what jobs you had

Because you're not a cdl driver yet, companies are only required to ask for last 3 years of employment.
3 yrs. is the minimum, but companies can legally ask for more if they want.
10 yrs. is the minimum for current cdl holders applying for a job.
You don't need a resume, just fill out the job application and read the questions carefully and only answer what the question asks. Don't go into details that aren't asked for.Last edited: Nov 29, 2019
Lepton1, Rollr4872, Texas_hwy_287 and 5 others Thank this. -
they don't "usually ask", but i had mine made up, with a template from MS Word, and included it with any mail-in or in-person interviews.
it went to show my employers and job duties, and loads handled.
safety awards as well.
but in general terms, you do not need one.Lepton1, Rollr4872 and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
Words of wisdom right there. Don't offer up any info they don't specifically ask for.Lepton1, meechyaboy, Dumdriver and 2 others Thank this.

I'm not trying to bust your chops, but this kind of information is only about that 3-year work history. You submit most anything like this not asked for on an application it will find the round file. When you apply for a driving job you have to satisfy HR as well as safety. HR is most of the time easy. Safety can bust your chops over most anything you give them about you. As has been stated above, Answer all the questions honestly BUT do not provide a scintilla of information not asked for.Chinatown Thanks this.

Nope. Just 3,5 7 or 10 years going back accounting for all time off work unemployed caregiving at home or whatever. Plus work history in that time span. They don;t care about anything prior to 10 years really.
You will find that they are less formal than resumes. Trucking is really basic. No brainer. -
I just have a basic rundown of vehicles driven and duties and dates. On a plain computer notepad.
It's not like I"m applying for some fortune 500 company who's going to pick my teeth and bones for any dirt they can find.
Basically, all they care about. Is can you DRIVE, without tearing sh** up.
Realistically speaking. All we do. Is haul stuff.
Unless you're applying for some glamorous job or top secret. -
As an employee for those places or a patient?
