So I had my ism turned up from 425hp to 500hp and I noticed my egts climb pretty quick running 850 pulling empty. Loaded they maybe max out at 1200 on the hills. The probe is in the down pipe. I just feel like something is a little odd but maybe it's normal?

More fuel = higher egt. Bigger windmill will solve that
TripleSix and stillwurkin Thank this. -
Was this a factory setting turn up or a custom tune?
-
Custom tune from a shop near me
-
So the tune up included adjustment of valves (overhead)? Or just a give it more fuel tune? Air filter(s) clean? Turbo was mentioned already. Do you have a boost guage? Is it really pulling better? If boost is higher and pulling better, run it by the boost and exhaust temp. May have to drop a gear or a half gear to keep exhaust temps down. Don't pull it very long at 1200 deg. Or at least i wouldn't.Brettj3876 Thanks this.

Yea don't hold it at 1200 for very long. 1100-1125 to be on the safe side
stillwurkin Thanks this. -
Overhead was done 20k ago . Deff pulls better with the tune and air filter is good. Makes 35psi of boost. On this one hill I always drive the egts will be at 1200 for 45secs I would say. Something doesn't seem right to me but maybe this motor isn't meant to be turned up like that. I have knowledge about cars and trucks but not this kind of motors but I know when something doesn't seem rightstillwurkin Thanks this.

Since the probe is post turbo anything over 1000* is in the piston melting range for an engine with aluminum pistons. Turbo will normally take 3-500 degrees out of the exh temp depending on how efficient the turbo is. Guessing the easy fix is a slightly larger exh housing on the turbo to help with getting the hot air out of the engine. Not sure if I would push much more then 35-40psi of boost.
Diesel Dave, magoo68, stillwurkin and 2 others Thank this. -
It's still using the vgt turbo so that's probably not helpingstillwurkin Thanks this.

VGT is helping it not hurting it.. VGT works better then a non VGT.. Sounds like all they did was set the timing high to give you more HP... Im at 475 and only hit 800 with 80k gross going up a hill if i get into it.. Also running 1200 on the turbo u must really not want it to last.. Keep that thing under 900Mohtrucker and Diesel Dave Thank this.
