buying up one company after another, or opening up companies to have a "shell corporation" to hide monies..i am always suspicious of large conglomerates.
but it beckons to ask, "who or what, have they been hiring over the years"?
sooner or later, the driver pool empties out of qualified people, and the fishing lines are cast out, and "ah catching they will go".....

Another driver from a foreign country with no consideration, and a stubborn OD driver who didn’t want to back out of it.mitmaks, rachi, IH Truck Guy and 3 others Thank this.

2013 was the height of the boom so it wouldn't suprise me. Manpower was getting thin between 2011 and 2014.buddyd157 Thanks this.

a guy had to be a well seasoned hand to get any OD loads like that, especially running cross border. Mullen had many to choose from. I think it was a brain fart, albeit a major one. on both the driver and the pilot.
I worked for Mullen throughout the 90's in the oilfield division, we called them the Red Army. they bought a #### load of companies.TripleSix, not4hire, HoneyBadger67 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Like I said they're a pretty reputable outfit so I am kind of suprised they screwed up that badly. I thought maybe the boom around then would have made it hard to find good talent.
Did you hear about that outfit that smoked the Suncor overpass a few years back? I counted 4 pilot cars if my memory is correct and they still managed to hit it hard enough to tear the mod clean off the trailer. -
I would never try to pass an oversize on an old bridge or even by a guard rail
Lot of these immigrants from Canada dont care about anyone but themselves
Mullen was on several episodes of ice road truckers
Their rookie driver seemed to have more skill than manyD.Tibbitt, LtlAnonymous, misterG and 3 others Thank this. -
Those new Canadians should be sent home IMO (like back to where they immigrated from). I witnessed so much stupid out of those morons on Thursday its not even a joke. From trying to pass on double solids, tailgating on glare ice, initiating a pass in the last 250 meters before the passing lane ends. Disgraceful.D.Tibbitt, IH Truck Guy, magoo68 and 3 others Thank this.

when they were buying up companies they didn't go for any small or newer outfits, they went and bought all the premier outfits with solid reputations and years of being in the business. pretty much just left them be, names and all, but new ownership and inserted a manager here and there. new hires had to spend a long time to prove themselves, but I know a lot of good hands that came from the Mullen group or that started with them and became really good operators. they still have a yard up here in Grimshaw, but it's a ghost town. the most activity I've seen lately is from their Premay division hauling 36" pipe that was headed up to Chinchaga for a pipeline expansion.
I think that was Sarens that did that one up in Ft Mac, but I might be wrong. there has been an explosion of mega HH outfits in the last ten years here in AB. sad part of that deal is that there are bypasses around every one of those overpasses on 63. that was bad all around. major F up -
it has reached epidemic proportions. something has to change

Yep. Sarens. I was stuck in the backup for over an hour trying to get to Aurora that morning.Troy_ Thanks this.
