Well it looks like my time at TMC may have run it's course for the time being. I got a call from my old concrete company yesterday asking me to come back and drive a bulker. I'm going to take it, it's a union job and a good company. Kind of sucks though, I hate to have put this time in at TMC before reaching my goal but ultimately I think this will be a springboard to get to where I want to be. I'll be calling my substitute FM tomorrow (my regular FM is on vacation this week) and putting in my notice.
Saying goodbye to TMC

Union job and concrete what a better mix.
shriner75 Thanks this. -
Congrats Cp, I hope all goes well with concrete company. Sounds like a good deal, I hope when I get my experience in and decide to leave I will be able to get a good deal like that. Good Luck and be safe.

Then after labor day, you'll be getting layed off again when the slowdown kicks in. It's a vicious cycle, right?
-
Overall how would you rate TMC and how did you enjoy your time there?

Good luck to you dude. I think in the long run you will be better off and more happy at the other job. Keep us updated and stick with the forum here too, like me,,lol. -
I appreciate it everyone, and Firna I'll definitely be keeping in touch, I like this forum and I get compulsive like that...
CoonAss overall I'd say it's difficult to grade TMC because they are the only OTR company I've driven for. I liked how busy they kept me, I liked people commenting on how nice the truck was and I think the base pay scale is competitive. I disliked the complete lack of respect they had for me as a person, I disliked the constant changing of the rules and operations, I disliked the attitude that wafted from HQ in Des Moines. A lot of these likes AND dislikes I think you are going to find at most if not all large trucking companies. I guess overall I'd say that you could do worse as a new driver, and you could do better as an experienced one. I drove for the company I'm going to for 8 years before coming here, I'm already vested in the pension I have a lot of friends there up and down the company ladder, it's a Teamster job and 3 days a week will net me more than I gross at TMC. I'd like to say it was a no brainer but in all honesty it was a tough decision because it feels like I wasted my time at TMC not riding it out until I had the experience to buy my own truck. I told my team leader that I was giving my notice that I'd be leaving and starting a new job on August 10th, in typical Des Moines fashion I was told and I quote "we're going to burn your DAC for not giving notice if you do this". I said giving notice is what I was doing at the moment and my team leader let me know that anything less than 2 weeks and they will burn me. I did get that worked out, at least they are saying don't worry we'll take care of it I guess we'll see what happens. Once I made it clear that I did not want to burn any bridges things seemed to calm down a little bit but holy crap I was threatened with just about everything this afternoon.MONTANASILVERSMITH24 Thanks this. -
They gave me a hard time too when I told them I was leaving, I gave my two weeks but was done after one week (their call not mine). They really tried to talk me out of leaving, and even said it wouldn't look good if I decided to come back someday, which I didn't think I ever would want to anyhow, but I thought about it recently. That was until I read about the easy pass and other things there doing now. Its just not worth it. I am curious though if the did kill my DAC, whats the best easiest way to find out?

Contact USIS and request a copy of your DAC. You could probably google it and find a number to call. I'm not opposed to coming back down the road but I'd want to do it in my own truck. I still need a little more experience though before I think I could get reasonable insurance.

Better mix! Ha!
